12 months from the day she submitted DS-5535.

I have seen one student from India and he got student visa for PhD after sending that questionnaire. I have not seen anyone who got both ( may be anyone who has PhD is not interested in green card). Is she from banned country? I'm still trying to figure it out what happened after 3 months when they were almost ready to give her visa ( 3 months is enough time for that type of questionnaire) but instead they sent her DS-5535.

Yes- she is from Iran (banned country). Do you think the embassy made a mistake and that is why they sent both sets of questions?

No she doesn’t have other travel ban clients. But she told me that  she knows people who got their visa after they request the waiver.

Even I know people who came here after they requested the waiver.. I’m very confused

If it was me, I would get a second opinion from an attorney with travel ban clients.

Yes even my parents told me that I should try the waiver and that’s the only option we have I guess..., it’s very complicated to be honest

I would speak to a different attorney with travel ban clients.

That’s really good idea but my attorney has my case since 2015 until now and I feel like it’s not good thing to give my case to another attorney while I already have one.

You dont have to switch necessarily, but get a second opinion at least.

Oooh I already ask attorney about what he thinks if I request a waiver and he told me that’s the only option I have. But he said don’t request without attorney

I wanna ask one more question. As embassy sent me an email requesting updated medical and visa photos. Should I reply them back that I have received their email and will send my docs to them asap?

Just send what they asked asap.. No need to reply. Tell me after how long you got this email? I mean the waiting time after interview

My best estimate timing for your husband visa is Oct 2019. Let it expire if he has no plan to travel. In Oct 2019 Embassy will ask you for new medical ,new fingerprinting and a fresh Passport. All these three things could be done easily in 30 days. My logic behind this is if by chance he got Clarence in July they can still give him visa on same passport. Sometimes they wave that rule, my father- in- law got visa on his passport when it was ready to expire in 2 months back in 2011. So this is not strict rule especially on immigrant visa.

Thanks for your answer. I really hope my husband gets his visa soon. He has been in AP for 4 months

@Rosepetal3333  Patience and living your life as usual will help you overcome this stress. There is only so much you can do. Look at the positive side. Imagine the families which belong to countries which are banned completely. Imagine people waiting in categories like F4 and waiting for 13-14 years and still put in AP for one reason or another and wait even longer. So try to calm your self and relax and live your daily life. I understand it's harder than said but it's possible!

You don't need to do 2nd medical until Embassy asked you to do it. Otherwise you will waste your money. What was your interview date?

Interview was on 10th Sept 2018.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Umar and I am a USC living in Chicago. I have been reading different threads for the last two years but never shared my immigration journey. So here it goes....

  • Me and my wife got married on January 6th, 2017 in Lahore, Pakistan.
  • I submitted i130 petition with all supportive documents on March 8th, 2017
  • i130 was approved October, 2017.
  • My wife had her interview in NVC Islamabad Embassy on February 14th, 2018.
  • She was given from 221g (White Paper) and her passport was kept.
  • One week later she received form DS-5535 in the e-mail which asked to provide all travel history, passport numbers, social media, emails etc.....
  • We provided all the information within a week.
  • Since then our case has been updated about 7 times. Each time it was updated because we inquired about the status of the case either via e-mail or through our congresswoman. Most recently it was updated on January 9th, 2019 when my congresswoman sent a written mail to the NVC Islamabad and inquired about the case.
  • Their response was generic that it is still going through AP processing. See file attached.
  • We are coming to almost 1 year since my wife had her interview and since we filled out DS-5535 questionnaire.

Since DS-5535 is fairly new and was implemented by Trump administration sometime in 2017, my question is did anyone get approved between that time? How long have people been waiting since responding to DS-5535? I know this process is long and could take 1 to 2 years but I just wanted to know if anyone has been approved and after how long?

Thank you all for your time and I hope everyone unites with their loved ones sooner rather than later.

Good Luck!

Umar and Sana
