I haven't heard of anyone, at least specifically here on VJ, who have filled out the DS5535 and received their visa. There are a few on here that have been waiting for close to a year now.

Does anyone have any insight as to why the long wait times after filling out the DS5535? I'm thinking not enough staff to handle the workload, or possibly uncooperative countries who do not openly supply the info on the visa applicant the embassy is looking for for vetting purposes....or a combination of all of that and more.

Anyways, here's to hoping 2019 will see more visa approvals for those of us waiting through this frustrating process.

Yes there are quite a few of us who have finished the AP and gotten visas. I know this thread is soooooo long but all that convo has happened here in previous pages. I agree that this endeavor is most likely (purposely) understaffed and things probably get more complicated when more countries and less efficient ones are involved.

Look back a bit in the thread for the link for the spreadsheet of people's data.

(Which needs to be updated)

Best of luck to those waiting. I'm not going to lie and say that it will happen soon. It will probably not happen for several months, though it might be shorter for some countries,  and yes, though your government representatives definitely need to know, they can't seem to speed things up for most cases.

October 2011: Met in Spain

2012-2014: Video chat + visas + visits and vacations = we made it through!

June 2014: Moved to Spain, got engaged

December 31, 2015: got married

April 20, 2016: sent I130 package

May 2, 2016: package received in Chicago Lockbox - - - 12 days for delivery!! Don't use TNT couriers!!

May 2nd or 5th, 2016: email NOA1... accepted and sent to.... NEBRASKA

And now.... breeeeeeathe..... be like water my friend....

October 26th, 2016: NOA2 [We had waited almost 6 months. Received notification from the phone app, never got an email.]

November 9th 2016: USCIS sent the petition to NVC (app notification) [waited 2 weeks after approval for this]

November 25th 2016: NVC received and created account for our petition [waited 16 days after USCIS sent it, for NVC to acknowledge receipt]

Dec 1st 2016: Chose agent online DS261 [a few days later than it could've been since the above NVC email went to SPAM!]

Dec 6th 2016: Case available for paying fees. That was fast, I think! 5 days!

Took a long time to get package out because... life... and husband's family in Morocco had to travel to get police document.

Feb 20th 2017: Scan date at NVC, received weird email.

April 28th 2017: CHECKLIST. Moroccans are required to send a Court Report regardless of Police Record status. My husband had to go back to Morocco to get it in person. Also, NVC wants a 2016 tax return now that is 2017. My bad.

September 15th 2017: 2nd Scan Date at NVC. Sent for document review October 20th.

Nov 10th 2017: Email requesting document be brought to interview. Will schedule interview.

Case complete date??: TBD :clock:.... November 8th!!

Interview date : January 18, 2018!!           Result: Administrative Processing

Embassy called for new medical last week of August. New Medical Sept 10.

Visa ISSUED September 14, 2018.

2 months waiting... Today is a bad day. Trying to stay patient but it’s getting really hard. I just really don’t understand why some of us have to wait so long 😭 I just have a feeling me and my husband are one of those couples that will be waiting for over a year too.

Hi guys, i have a curious Administrative processing, need your opinions: so I had my interview on nov 13. Was asked to submit an older version of ds 5535 (exactly same questions asked on a ds5535) but more of the generic or early version. Being im from a middle east country and have been through the same AP process before on my b1/b2 visa and waited for 7months before getting approved in the past. Anyway this time its a cr1 visa. As usual had a feeling I’d go through this again so i prepared my ds5535 in advance and sent it the same day after my interview after the consul asked for it. Now when I checked my status my case was created on aug 9, aug 9 is way before my case even reached the nvc and my interview was on nov 13. How is that possible? About the interview it was less than 10min basic questions about me and my wife. We’re both same age, never been married before. and I’ve been to the US 3times in the past when we were dating. At the interview  the CO kept my passport. And said it shouldn’t take long, probably a week or 2 but i said it took 7months last time before my visa was issued. now I’m waiting for a month on AP.

I gave them the most detailed Ds5535. Everything from the first travels since was a 3month baby upto present day. Including exact dates and duration. I keep a very detailed record. Any more detailed and I’d probably give them a description of what i ate and wore on my travels. Including social media. Addresses. Etc. Never been to banned country. Never had any record. Not even a parking ticket. I mean for christ sake im an arab im also a catholic christian, an only child, but i carry a muslim name because its required for my country’s citizenship and I’ve been through a long ap once. Shouldn’t the 2nd time be quicker? Im sorry for the long post i just miss my wife and waited for a year for our cr1 visa to be approved and now this AP again. I keep praying it doesn’t take another year

Country: bahrain

visa CR1
