There's a possibility of experimenting with a new procedure of manipulating retro-viruses to induce our immune system to produce high amounts of CD8 cells to fight autoimmune diseases.

Some people in Europe have immunity to HIV. They still show CD4 (HIV antibodies), however, their CD8 cell count is high. In other words, they will never die or suffer death due to the virus.

Another experiment they're doing is playing with the protein bonding of the retro-virus. They have narrowed a common point on the virus that doesn't change or mutate. It's this piece of protein that binds itself to a living cell. If they are able to find a drug that can counteract it this piece, it'll be able to eliminate HIV for good! ^_^

Don't tell the CDC that. They'll never get rid of all those pesky Africans or Chinese, Indians, Russians, and those "undesirables" here in the U.S.

Then, they'll have to find a new way to reduce the global population..... famine, maybe?

I have a question: what happens to applicants for a K1/K3/DCF if they are HIV positive or if they suffer from anything else? I don't know anybody who is actually sick, but I always wonder what happens. Are they allowed to still immigrate and marry (I hope so, you can't stop love)? Does anybody know?

@ Consolemaster: I heard something about the immunity among the Europeans as well, apparently it has to do with the plague-survivers from the middle age, whoever survived it has a different immune system or whatever, I forgot the details, but it's worth google-ing it if you are interested (though you seem to be pretty up to date ;) ).

We should build huge public housing projects and invite the all the world's HIV positive people. Of course we'll have to double the tax revenue but it's the 'right' thing to do.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The medical result of HIV+ is currently grounds for rejection. However, in the K-1 case, a marriage may still be doable if the USC emigrates to the SO's country.

I can understand the fear of not wanting to spread diseases like HIV, but what about the tourist aspect? To go as a tourist you don't need an HIV test to travel there. Some travel destinations in the US are nothing but booze filled parties, lots of sex with total strangers, etc. Isn't that more of a risk than a one on one married couple?

In the United States, less than 1% are HIV positive. There are about 300 million people living, and only 1.4 million are infected. The CDC estimate that about 800,000 cases are not reported.

The chance of contracting it is 0.4%. However, it's not recommended that you go and have sex with everybody.

but customs and immigrations forms do have a little box to tick which asks if you have HIV. If a tourist said yes, I guess they could be refused entry.. But would anyone admit it????

We'll only do that if they're living under tyrannical rule (and.... just happen to be on top of the 2nd largest, no wait, we got that one... make that the 3rd largest oil reserve in the world!) and need to be "liberated."
