I'm not talking about what factors into where they choose to do it, I'm just referring to your comment about the permit holders coming in to save the day from earlier in this thread. Of course they weren't there because they aren't allowed to be. Everyone is talking about what if the security that was sent for Scalise wasn't there it would have been a massacre - but what if they weren't there but some of the people there actually had guns on them? Could solve that problem right there. This dude would have gotten his guns however he had to get them. Also, while it might not be a factor for where they choose to shoot there have in fact been incidents in the past where they did try stuff like this and it was cut short because somebody was there with a gun. Usually it's cut so short it doesn't really even make headlines though. The majority of the mass shootings that do are in gun free zones.

I was replying to your comment below in bold, that's what brought the factors into it.

And those independents, moderates, and right wing people who Lea Dilaria cites as enemies, need to stop being so politically correct and stand up to the left.

For anyone to be playing the political affiliation game in this tragedy is just silly. These mass shootings will continue to take place until the US gets serious about strict gun control.

Although I will not dispute that you have a point, here is the conundrum: It is in very bad taste that someone should publicly suggest killing someone else, but it's criminal that someone should carry it out, obviously. We have a lethal combination of the 1st and 2nd amendment, with the exception that in this case, the terrorist was not shouting words, but shooting bullets instead.

 

Curbing the 1st amendment would be akin to establishing gun controls. 

 

So, we talk, discuss, and then regroup and wait for the next wacko to mow down more innocent lives.

Nothing will happen. We've seen it all. We've seen this type of terrorism in an elementary school, movie theater, mall, night club, and almost anywhere you would not expect someone to bring a gun, in a civilized society, and yet there has not been one incident that has galvanized the country around the idea that there is something wrong.

He was absolutely not a Trump supporter, he couldn't stand the guy. Everything they are finding about him in the last 24 hours seems to point to someone with a vendetta against republicans who decided to act on it.

Here's the thing... when a guy has multiple arrests including pretty violent ones for battery, and still manages to own many firearms and a cc permit.. I scratch my head a little. Then when he starts firing off rounds on his property... shooting toward his neighbor's property where children were playing.. and all he gets from police is ''tsk tsk stop that would ya?" that seems to be a problem. It reminds me of the kind of stuff that goes on in this town.. where the neighbors shoot guns off while drunk or for fun times or for any reason at all. That has resulted in the dead of individuals on this street and property destruction... and nothing is ever done.

An argument could be made that inciting violence does not fall under the classification of protected free speech, just as laws restricting gun ownership have been tested and found to not violate the 2nd amendment. 

 

It floors me that in nearly every single case where this happens it seems that the laws are neither applied nor enforced. 

 

This guy should have NOT been holding or owning or carrying a gun under existing laws - so where is the accountability for failure to enforce?
