Can I write my friend a letter of invitation while I'm waiting for my wife's CR1 visa

Hi,

My wife and I are patiently waiting through the process of getting a cr1 visa. She is waiting for me in Peru, while I am here in US working. There have been a few delays along the way, it has been about a year and half since I initiated the petition. Hopefully they will finish reviewing all of the paperwork, and finally give her an interview date at the US embassy in Lima.

My question is, can I write a letter of invitation for my friend who lives in Peru. When I was staying in Peru I became close friends with him, he is the person who introduced me to my wife and I would love for him come visit me here. I'm afraid that inviting him would affect my wife's visa in some way. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Can you? Sure. But it will not aid in his ability to obtain a tourist visa. It will not impact the CR-1 case.

My friend doesn't make a huge amount of money, so I was planning on covering him financially. I was going fill out an affidavit of support. I thought that because I was doing one for my wife already it might affect her somehow. I made $45, 000 last year. Maybe there is a rule about how many affidavits of support you can have in a certain time-frame.

Thank you!

There is no such thing, unfortunately as an affidavit of support for a tourist Visa.  Your friend will need to qualify for a tourist visa based on his own ties to Peru,   If he does not have a strong reason to return home (such as a good job, land titles in his name etc.) than his chances of getting a visa are very remote.  Your letter and attempt to show that you are willing to finacially support his trip are more likely to harm his chances than help as it shows almost certainly that he can't afford the trip and has less reason to return to Peru.

there is no sponsorship for a tourist visa, you can't file an affidavit of support for your friend

you can write a letter if you want to, but most of the times the officer doesn't even read it, it isn't taken into consideration

your friend has to qualify on his own, show strong ties to his country. showing that he has reasons to return

If  your friend is in College and has at least one more year of schooling to complete than a J-1 work study visa might be a better and easier option to obtain.   His continued schooling may be considered to be a strong enough tie to home country to qualify but I still believe his chances are slim   No harm in him trying and no effect positive or negative on your wife's application

That will likely hurt his chances for approval. You cannot sponsor somebody for a tourist visa. They have to qualify on their own. An AoS is going to imply a support network within the US, which is a tie to the US. He needs ties back home to show that he will leave the US.

You can purchase a plane ticket or provide housing and such fine. But they also need to be honest about who is paying for the trip.

His friend was going to pay for his trip. He probably wouldn't be able to pay for the schooling though. All tuition has to be paid I believe.
