How long is the stay likely to be (allowed)? And can someone enter without round trip ticket?

Interesting. Maybe depends on the airline.Also, there are security personnel who check tickets and they can flag her. For instance, I bought my fiance a return ticket since he is from a homophobic country and we got a refund from the airline for the return portion. We were afraid incase the country he was exiting would question why he had a one way ticket. The Security people in London on his transit here held him up wondering why a US Intending Immigrant would want to return....when he explained the agent was understanding
