Hi Folks,

Thanks for this amazing forum.

I am living in the US (American) and am bringing my Fiancee here from the UK. We just received our NOA2 after four months waiting-- thank god almighty.  I have a few questions about what happens now.

1) What is the point of calling the NVC over and over again for the case number? My Fiancee read somewhere here that the Medical Exam place in London needs a HARD-COPY of the case number before she can attend.  Is that accurate?  So she can simply read it them over the phone to make the appointment.  If they need a hard-copy then it seems calling the NVC doesn't speed up the process. We must simply wait for the NVC to mail it?

Also has anyone recently scheduled the final K-1 visa interview in London?  Was it difficult to get an appointment in a timely fashion? Was the whole medical exam-final interview timely? (less than two months?)

Kind Regards,

Josh and Emily

The point of calling the NVC is to obtain the case number as quickly as possible. A letter is sent out to the American fiancé detailing the number... however there are many examples of such a letter never arriving, arriving very very late, duplicate letters arriving constantly, a letter arriving when the case is completely done fiancé is in America and now married lol etc... There were also times of a delay of the case actually moving to the NVC from the service center in the first place. So yes, you do need the number... so that Knightsbridge can match the medical with your case file and that they know the case is in London to begin with. If you want to make an appointment set up as soon as possible you can obtain it from calling, track it to be able to know when it's in London, and have the medical. The letter may have arrived by that time or may not have (a screenshot of CEAC tracker of the case will suffice).

Thank you Yuna for your quick  response!  Yes, I understand that having the case number will allow My fiancee in England to make the appointment for the medical exam. As I understand it she will need to show a hard copy at the TIME of the exam appointment though?  So what is the CEAC tracker?  Excuse my ignorance on this one.  You are saying that a screenshot of that tracker would suffice for a hard-copy at the time of the medical exam appointment?

Also, when you made your final interview appointment in Knightsbridge, how far out did they provide you a date?  1 or two months?

Thanks for your time and answers!

The CEAC tracker is what you can put your case number into and see if London is ready for you to proceed. https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx

While Knightsbridge might imply that you need a hardcopy document to have the medical... Knightsbridge often tends to say a lot of things that aren't exactly as they seem. A screenshot of the CEAC can suffice. Afterall the NVC sometimes never sends out a letter or it goes missing, and exceptions have to be made. You can find this explained in greater detail in the London specific guide. You could even call the NVC and ask them to email confirmation (don't know if they would but doesn't hurt to ask if the letter is still awol).

Keep in mind that when we went through this process things were different in that after the medical and completing the additional forms, the UK fiancé would then be sent a letter detailing their embassy appointment date (it was assigned to you and you had no choice of date). This is no longer the case, as individuals can now book their own appointments. That eliminates paperwork for the embassy and fuss. You can pretty much book your appointment for the embassy as soon as you are able to and within what their calendar will allow. I'm not up on current appointment times, but if I had to guess I'd estimate a few weeks out from the medical date.

You can find other people talking about how they resolved having verbal confirmation of the LND number but not written confirmation on the last page. What they are simply looking for is confirmation the case is sitting in London.
