Same here,

when we lived in an apartment, received GC for three of us and no problem. Just to worried about ID theft.

But now that we just bought a house, maybe for future use ill just do the "ducktape to the inside" trick just incase.

and just add last name only

Edited by isleta521

10Yr GC arrived 07/02/09 - Naturalization is next

The drama begins - again!

And now the drama ends - they took the Green card . . .

I just looked at the USCIS website, and it states that if someone elses name is on the box, they cannot forward it. They state to add your name to the mailbox. It sounds like as long as there is no name on the box or if there is a name, then you need to add your name.

Anybody else agree?

No. People have got their green card undelivered for simply having no name on the mailbox as well.

To everyone who posted here that they didn't have their name and still got their Green Card: Good for you!

However even if there is only a 1% chance that no name on the mailbox can lead to a returned Green Card, why take the risk? Enough things can go wrong with this process, without adding another possible issue.

Bumping this.

What about mailslots? I just moved to a townhouse. No mailbox, but a mailslot in the front door. I don't think I'm allowed to put a label on the slot itself due to townhouse regulations.

I received my second green card a few days ago (first one had a birthdate error so was returned) and it was delivered to my mailbox which doesnt have my name on it. I guess it just depends on the postman !

I think this is true too. Our name isn't on our mailbox either, just the street number. My husband's green card was delivered safe and sound. However, that's not to say other people shouldn't put their name on their mailbox. Just sharing our experience is all.

Hmm... we're using my husband's mother's address as our mailing address (not that we've even sent the AOS paperwork yet) because I was under the impression it was a good idea to have a mailing address that you know isn't going to change anytime in the near future (my husband knew he'd be moving house shortly after we mailed the I-129F so we used his mother's address on the forms, and thought it would be a good idea to stick to using her address now) - does this mean we need to ask her to put my name on her mailbox? We've put her name in the 'c/o' part of the I-485, so would anything sent in the mail (including, eventually, the GC) be addressed c/o my mother-in-law, and would just having her name on the mailbox be ok? I have no idea whether her name is on there or not, had better check....

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

I agree, and after reading all this I will write my name on the box. Glad I read this thread now. Thanks

We don't have a name on the mailbox, and USCIS even put the wrong apartment number on the envelope with my card. But I still got it!

I think putting the name on the mailbox is a very good idea, though.

Maybe this all depends on how picky your mailman is? Mine obviously isn't... he's still shoving mail for the former tenants through the slot even though he knows there are new tenants here (he delivered both mine and my husband's USPS change of address confirmation this week). I'll try and catch him one of these days and ask about the USCIS mail delivery.

Our old mailbox at the apartment off-base did not carry any names as well. We were not allowed to put names on it.

We filled out the form for forwarding the mails when we moved and all the other mails has been forwarded so far (also letters from USCIS i.e. with change of adress confirmation, NOA), so I just wonder how come that this letter has not been forwarded. Also I did not receive any welcome letter as well. Hope they did not screw up. :((

I think that some letters have stamped on them DO NOT FORWARD so the USPS will just return them to the sender in that case. Which is quite likely in the case of a Green Card. So note to others to change your address with USCIS ASAP.

When it had been over 2 weeks of my not getting my SSN I had called the SSA and the lady I talked to suggested that it was possible that that was why my card wasn't delivered to me. So I made a pretty note on paper with the full names of everyone in the house and even my maiden name and stuck it inside the lock box really well. I might very well have trouble getting it out when we eventually move....

It should be noted that USCIS themselves recommend that the recipents name should be placed on or inside their mailbox. I'll quote a PDF on the USCIS website:

Any notices or documents USCIS may send you are considered

official government mail. If your name is not on the mailbox and/or

registered with the local U.S. Postal Service Office, the Postal Service

may not deliver official government mail to you. Please remember to

register your name and address with the local post office and to put

your name on your mailbox.

Just want to let everyone knows that is waiting for the GC in the mail.

My card has been sent back as underliverable because there were no name on the mailbox (which is not really common to see over here).

Well make sure you put your name on the mailbox while waiting for the card to be in the mail!

Good luck to those that are waiting!!!!

I have to wait another 30 days until I will get it resend! :crying::crying:

Hmmmmmm..........never heard of this. Our name is not on our mailbox. In fact, our mailbox is not even our mailbox....it's a slit in the door of my cousin's next door. Since we moved suddenly last year and did not truly know where we would end up, every single piece of our mail goes to her house. We had no problems getting our card.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

Yes, congratulations, you didn't have a problem. As I stated above though, not everyone has been as lucky as you. Your statement only serves to show that USCIS and USPS are erratic, not proof that you don't need to put your name on your mailbox.

Even though I have a mailslot in my front door, I went ahead today and put a piece of tape with our last names on it on the edge of the slot so the mailman will see it when he opens the slot (but it's not visible when the flap is down).
