I asked a couple of friends who made the trip.  They told me they traveled from MOKHA port to Djibouti.  They said only passport and nothing else.  He said some even go without any documents.  Its a slow boat so it takes a day and the boat is kind of old.   My guess is your spouse will have to have her passport with her since she will go to the embassy.  Off course you have to pay for the trip there and they don't have a set price so be careful.

Mokha is on the west side of Yemen and its by Taaiz.  They told me to check now If its safe to depart from there because of the war.  Some friends who are from the South of Yemen left from Aden Port.  Same thing trip is about a day long, need passport only no visa is required.  Off course have some money on you. 

I will ask my father's friend who his family has an interview in Djibouti on 7/21.  I will ask him what he will do and how he will get his family there, then I will let you know since he's planning it now.  Good luck
