For K1 visa, to receive a case # can take up to 8 weeks! I hope none of us need to go through this. It takes 6 weeks for them to receive and 2 weeks to assign case #.

I am on my 30th day.

Not at all, you can have your case number after a week. Just call the NVC and tell them you need you case number. They will ask for USCIS receipt number, your names etc. and will give it you right away.

Formal letter takes longer to come via mail. I had received the NVC letter in mail after i was done with interview. Lol

Must be some kind of a delay but usually you get in after a week by calling them. Just keep calling them every other day. You will be able to get it within next few days. Also send an email inquiry to NVC for the same. That email will contain everything which will be on NVC original letter. That will work as formal letter if you will ever need it later.

You are welcome, No need to lose hope just prepare yourselves for interview because that is something to worried. You need to be well prepared.

When you call NVC ppl always say its take 6 weeks or so. but keep calling them and you will get it in few days. The day we got it on the phone. I called and they said its not there yet and after 5 min my fiance called and got it.

I'm in the same boat as you (almost)... Approved the 19th and NVC still hasn't received it.  I actually find this wait is more frustrating than the wait for NOA2 (since I expected a 3-4 month wait).  This they just have to send it and enter it in their system so Im not sure why some people are getting theirs in 2 weeks and I see others at 5 weeks with no word.

Something going on with 19th approvals, coming up on 4 weeks now. Also approved on that day and as of ten minutes ago, still nothing. It's bizarre, frustrating, and wholly inexcusable; particularly given that numerous cases that were approved almost two weeks later have already had case numbers generated.

I was informed recently by USCIS that despite being approved on the 19th, our case wasn't sent to the NVC until May 25th, so that may be why the wait is longer, but even then there is no logical reason why it should take this long.

NVC must be doing something we don't know, could be the electronic process, which is a new system/process that they just roll out recently. For some of the people that received the case number recently, it is showing a "6 steps" status when they check on the CEAC website. However, the "6 steps" notice should be only for CR1, not K1. It is just a mess.

You might try calling the NVC to ask if your case has been logged in the system. I called yesterday, two weeks after my NOA2 was issued, and was told they had just assigned me a case number that day and that my case had been sent to the consulate in my fiance's country. The physical file, I was told, will take another few weeks to be sent to his consulate, but it's good to have the case number in the meantime. I'm not sure if you can set up the consulate appt with just the case number or not.

We have called, thats the problem! When we call, they tell us they havent received our petition, which doesn't make sense since people approved weeks after us are getting their case numbers already.  There's a handful of people I've seen around here with the same issue.  Not sure if it's sitting around in a mailroom or what but after the NOA2 I thought I had a better idea of when I would be able to move but now it's all up in the air again, which is what's so frustrating.

@Natalie_BartEverytime I called NVC, I asked them if they receive my case or seeing anything in the system.... and I am being told they haven't receive my case yet or not showing my receipt # in the system. This is really depressing.

I understand how frustrating the whole process is. Your ability to make plans for the immediate future are contingent on a system that doesn't give you any answers--it feels really disrespectful at times, considering that you probably have your life on hold waiting for this to go through.

I'm wondering if the government has a system in place that prioritizes certain countries or puts caps on the numbers of visas issued during a given time period based on the volume from each country. Just a guess--I could be off base on that idea. Did you see this page that lists how many visas are pending and how many have been issued per country? Take a look: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/stats.php?cfl=

The NOA2 letter says you should get an answer within 30 days, so if you call on the 19th of June and still get silence then maybe check out an immigration attorney.

It can absolutely take up to 8 weeks.  It doesn't always take that long, but it's possible.  NVC will not investigate what the delay is until you've been waiting for a full 6 weeks.
