Hello Everyone!

My husbands visa interview is scheduled in Rio on July 14th for a CR-1 visa. We were wondering how long it generally takes to receive the visa? We were hoping to buy a flight to the U.S since we found a good deal. He is willing to stay in Rio and pick it up if that would speed up receiving it.

NEVER buy a ticket without your visa in your hand. It's a quick way to lose money. You'll see many stories on here of people who got approved st their interview and bought ticket then due to this or that didn't get the visa.

If you wsnt to tisk it be prepared to lose the money if it doesn't happen

If the tickets are refundable, go for it. I'd say you'd get it within 2 weeks, but could be sooner if picking up in Rio (not sure the timeline, but you can send an email to the embassy asking).

if they're not refundable, for your best interest, do not buy them. It's too risky to do that, since you never know if everything will be ready by the time you have to fly out. Also, there were instances where the visa had misspelled or wrong info, problems with courier, problems with visa processing worldwide, etc. To me, it's too much of an expense to gamble with, but of course it's a personal choice
