Filing N400 online, anyone?

Hello everyone,

I hope you can help me answer my situation.

I was married to a US citizen 12/23/2013 and got my green card 04/23/2014. We filed divorce November or December 2014. The divorce was final 06/2015. I didn't want to get the divorce but life happened and people grew apart. I filed for my 10 years green card in 06/2015 and got my 10 years green card 10/2015. I am thinking of filing N-400 online early next year when my 90 days window opens 01/23/2019 based on the 5 years rule. what do I need to submit to the USCIS beside filling out form N-400? Do I still need to submit all the shared documents and pictures from my previous marriage? Or Do I only need to submit my tax return and the divorce paper? I have all my tax return from 2015-2017. I didn't have tax return 2014. I honestly don't remember whether or not I filed my 2014 tax with my ex. Does USCIS need all 5 years tax return? In my case, I've became lawful resident 2014. So do I need to submit my tax return 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018? In addition, I will be filing online in late January 2019, how can I submit my 2018 tax return? I am not sure what to submit in regards to this situation. Has anybody in the same boat?

Please advise!

Thank you in advance! :)

Greetings, all!

I have read this entire thread over the past week or so. Today is my 3 years -90 days date, and I have prefilled my N400.

I have been married to my USC spouse for 9 years; have my 10-year green card; landed 3 years (-90 days) ago; but the form is still asking for my info for 5 years (residence, jobs, and travel). The residence and jobs part is fine, but how can I put the dates of travel outside the US for the two years before I became an LPR? I was hoping the form would update itself when I logged in today.

Should I delete it and start over? Thanks for your thoughts.

I was in a similar situation. Got the 10 year GC early 2012, but divorced late 2012. Like you said, people grow apart and there are various other reasons. I did not submit my tax returns, but I submitted my marriage certificate, and divorce decree. Try and get certified copies of each from your local courthouse and submit those. You CAN submit your tax returns if you'd like, but they are not necessary. If you were still married to the USC you'd need to show proof of an ongoing marriage, and join tax returns are usually recommended.

I scanned them anyway and brought them to my interview just in case, but my IO did not request them. She did, however, ask about my previous marriage and subsequent divorce to which I answered truthfully.

I think all the miscellaneous documents I submitted were my speeding ticket, documentation of name changes since birth (deed poll, marriage cert etc) and a few letters of recommendation written by friends and family. None of those were touched on except my divorce decree and my speeding ticket.

Hope that helped!

Are you filing by the 3 year rule or 5 year?

Thank you so much! so far I think I'll scan and submit my marriage certificate, my divorce decree. I already have a certified copy of my divorce decree from 2015. Should I request a new copy? Did you submit your bank statements, paystubs, or image proof from the previous marriage?

Well, I pulled the trigger. I included the 3-year travel info and the 5-year residence and jobs info.

Documentation: green card front & back; marriage certificate; USC spouse passport; some bank info and joint auto and home insurance proof. A lot of our bills are in his name since he had the credit rating when we moved back here, so there wasn't much to use. I would have added the IRS transcripts for the past two years (married filing jointly) but I got locked out of the site for 24 hours when they didn't like my account numbers  so they'll have to wait for those.

Nope, they weren't mentioned in my interview, just figured I have people that were willing to do so, so I added them anyway.

Really anything that doesn't document a life change like marriage, divorce, name change, or any evidence required to support answers in your application is considered optional, additional stuff.

Thank you so much for your help! I was so worried about my tax return 2014. I didn't really work that year and I couldn't remember if I had filed that with my ex. It is nowhere to be found.

Yeah, I'm missing 2013 and 2014 for some reason, so I just brought 2015-2017 but I'm getting better at keeping track now, lol

You know what? I filed my 2014 tax with my ex. He filed it for us. I honestly don't want to reach out to him just for the tax return. I'll try to look for it again but do you know it's okay to miss one year?
