Is it more expensive to do it online?  I started the process online last year but didn't trust it when it asked for $250 to start the process.  Is that correct?

Thanks.

Yikes! DHS asks for $725 when you complete and submit the application. Good job not getting scammed!

I am within 90 day period before completing my 5 years of receiving LPR and am preparing to file N-400 online.

It probably is a very basic question but will appreciate if somebody can help guide me whether answer to following question should be Yes/No : "I am at least 18 years of age and have been a lawful permanent resident of the United States for at least 5 years."

Good news folks!:) I seen here  a few complaints about unfair or aggressive behavior of IO at testing at citizenship interviews. Now USCIC making it less depending on your interviewers and more depends on data base. If you are right, you are right, no complaints😜 https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/uscis-using-tablets-administer-english-reading-and-writing-tests-naturalization

Perhaps they should focus instead on reducing the application backlog? Just sayin'...

My dear... Sad but they are already have to hire a lot of people to be able keep up with enormous amount applications from all this illegals who didn't care to became legal for years and years. Why do you think since Sept 11 uscis start regectin any applications without dissent and full evidences of legibility?

Those illegals again! They've caused my indigestion, my receding hairline, my low sperm count... now I can't even become a citizen on time because of them! Sheesh...

Looks like you have a lack of cause/consequence thinking. Sorry for your loss😝

It probably was a growing problem, what could have been a smooth-sailing interview with practice may have been intimidating to some applicants when the IO is unnecessarily and unexpectedly aggressive, thus causing overanxiety and nervousness, and the applicants did not do as well as they well could have.

On hindsight, you seem to be a troll, so *shrug*

I doubt it's a major issue. The entire interview is conducted in English, including a full review of the application, so by the time of the IO is formally assessing your English language skills, s/he has already has a good sense of your ability. Imagine if they devoted more effort and technological creativity to speeding up adjudications of the growing backlog of immigration-benefit applications instead!

So this has been on my mind since I applied online a couple of weeks ago, and maybe someone here can put my mind at ease or tell me I'm screwed.

My green card anniversary is 4/3, so I became eligible to file on 1/3. And I did file online at 2:30am (Central) on 1/3. On the receipt notice it says "We received your application on 3rd January", so that's fine, but the priority date, for whatever reason, is set as the 2nd January, so the day before I became eligible. At the time I filed it was the 3rd everywhere in the US (12:30am, 1:30am, 2:30am, 3:30am), but for reasons I don't understand they used the previous day as the priority date. Obviously if they go by this priority date as the actual received date then I would be deemed ineligible, since I only became eligible on the 3rd.

I have the credit card receipt showing the charge was made on 1/3 at 2:30am, but now I'm starting to worry over the date discrepancy. I've tried searching around and even asked a couple of lawyers but this is such a new system that there isn't really much out there. All they told me was "wait to see what USCIS does".

So, any thoughts/suggestions? I mean, it's crossed my mind to withdraw and then re-apply to head the issue off (if it's an issue at all), but then I'd eat the $725 application fee...

Hi Hypnos,

I did file one day too early, the system did allow me to go and pay the day -1 (4/12) when my first date for 90 d early filing should had been 4/13. I know I am the only one to blame (and not necessarily the USCIS system that allowed me to file on day -1) for the mistake, but I got confused because of that and did not check the USCIS calculator... I called USCIS and spoke with a L2 officer who told me that I should either wait for the interview (it has been 5.5 m since my FP) or withdraw and reapply (paying the fee again of course and loosing all this time)... so I wanted to know about your experience with the matter, although it is not the same case as mine (ie your payment receipt is on the right date, mine is not; receipt and priority are both 1 day too early)... how did it go in your interview? it was noted? mentioned? discussed?

Apparently, some online applicants that did as me had no problem, see:

but some paper filers had had issues, see:

Thanks,

N
