Filing N400 online, anyone?

Filing online, with a question about evidence required when you indicate that you have a previous minor arrest/citation on your record.

I have a minor traffic violation on my driving record from 10+ years ago, paid the $20 ticket, and indicated that I'd been arrested, cited, etc. under Moral Character > Crimes & Offenses. In the Evidence section, I uploaded my driving record that describes the incident under "Information about your arrest(s)".

However, when I try to save that page and move on, the form suggests I also need to upload evidence with "Information about arrest(s) or conviction(s) removed from your record" or processing of my application may be delayed. That doesn't apply to me. Should I simply ignore?

Hey everyone. Sorry this is probably a repeat question but it’s hard to read through 62 pages of thread and for what I’ve seen so far most of the document discussion is about marriage-based naturalization. What documents are needed to be uploaded for a 5-year based green card (diversity visa so no qualifying evidence of marriage, employment etc ever needed). Copy of green card I know - do I need to upload 5 years of tax transcripts at the time of applying online? Anything else? I’d prefer to have everything ready to go ASAP as I’m hoping against hope to get the process completed before my kid turns 18 next spring...

I kind of front-loaded mine, applied online under the 5-year rule.

The only required document is the front and back copy of your green card.  You don't need to upload the tax transcripts but you can if you want to.

This is what I uploaded in mine:

Copy of front and back of green card

Copy of bio page of my foreign passport (figured it made it easier/quicker for them to confirm my travel history through their database)

Copy of the front and back of my State ID (hey, it's another identification document, so it wouldn't hurt, plus helped prove my residency/address)

Copy of court documents (this is required only if you have a criminal history, which I do)

Copy of attachment explaining all of my travel dates over 5 years were estimated/approximated (since I had no passport stamps being Canadian)

I brought the original tax transcripts to my interview, but they weren't looked at.

A copy of my foreign birth certificate WAS asked for during my interview, even though it was NOT a required document.  Luckily I had one with me.

Hello Everyone,

Finally I was able to finish reading this post, all 62 pages of it. So I am relatively sure that my questions haven't been posted here under this thread. What a great place to gather information. Thank you all.

I am ready to apply for N-400 online soon. Can someone please help with the following couple of questions:

1. I have been married to the same spouse for over a decade now. In order to answer Part 1. Question 1.

Should I apply as A: LPR (Green card) for longer than 5 years? or B: Married to a US citizen for at least 3 years? It seems that I am qualified for both. I did get my LPR through marriage at the beginning. To my current understanding, it seems that filing as A requires filing less documents online.

2. I don't have a middle name. Should I leave the box blank or should I put N/A? I tried N/A online, and the system didn't allow the forward slash symbol. I was able to put "Not Applicable" in the box though.

Thank you so much and good luck everyone.

My timeline:

Removal of condition on GC

04/04/08 Sent my I-751 to TSC by express mail

04/11/08 Case was transferred to VSC, showed online

05/03/08 Biometric test scheduled

03/29/09 Received ten year green card

Thanks a bunch. CJKylie.

I feel better to submit some supporting documents, other than just photocopies of green card.

I wonder whether it would make it complicated, if I chose 5-year-based N 400, and also submitted supporting documents, like marriage certificate, spouse's birth certificate, tax returns, and back statements?

Anyone who had gone through this before?

Thank you in advance.

For some reason, the DHS website asked me to upload any record that my criminal records were sealed, despite I don't have a criminal record. Can I make a placeholder document and upload that? They also asks for Additional Evidence, but then I believe I can upload a cover sheet?

Did you disclose any sort of arrest/ticket/citation in your application?  That's the only way you would be prompted to upload court documents with your application.  Do NOT make a placeholder document as an upload---all that will do is result in you being sent an RFE for the court documents once more.

It's possible you mistakenly checked "yes" to the arrest/citation question when you meant to check "no", resulting in the system asking you to upload information relating to any past criminal history.  Go back through your application to ensure your answers are correct.

You can upload a cover sheet under Additional Evidence.

I would recommend you get a document stating that you don't have a criminal record from your local courthouse, or if whatever reason you DO have sealed records, for them to declare that. If you use a placeholder, DHS MIGHT use that as proof that you're trying to cover up alleged wrongdoing. Of course, if you accidentally clicked "YES" in that pesky little box, change it to no. ;)

As for the cover sheet, make sure you're also uploading documents specified in said cover sheet.

Is it more expensive to do it online?  I started the process online last year but didn't trust it when it asked for $250 to start the process.  Is that correct?

Thanks.
