I was excited at this new development, that my hoarding could somehow help me out... sadly, my online checking records only go back to September 2016. 🤣

Go to your bank and ask them for a copy of your cancelled check.

Cancelled... check...? 😶

Cancelled check is what the check is called once it has been cashed.  Did you write a check to pay the fine?  If so, when it was cashed an electronic image of the check (front and back) was sent to the Federal Reserve Bank which then sent it to your bank.  Your bank should have a copy of the check.

I would imagine if you did an electronic funds transfer instead, your bank should still be able to provide you with proof of the transaction.

It looks like I saved the email receipt from my electronic transaction, and was emailed a certified copy of my case "file" (it was like, a third of a page lol) showing my $0 balance, so I uploaded both. Hopefully that would be sufficient!

1.  The marriage certificate is proof enough of the name change.

2. Yes, and include an explanation as it mentions at the beginning of that section

USCIS is only accepting a small number of online applications at present,

I applied online on Feb 9th this year after I stumbled on this link and was a citizen 68 days later

after you have completed the online application and attached the scanned supporting evidence documents

.

So my wife who has been in the US for 6 years is ready to apply for naturalization (she has a 10 year greencard)

so how do i scan documents? what format do they want? can i take pictures with a digital camera & upload the picture of the document?

can i pay the fee online with a credit card even if filing a paper form?

thank you

Yes, you can take a photo and upload the image file on USCIS online website. You can't pay online if you are doing a paper form. Right now, the online system is mature and 99% of people now are filing online.

outstanding, thank you for the info. we will try to gather all documents tomorrow & file online.

I think you can upload JPEG or PNG files however I would recommend converting the files to PDFs. There are several websites that offer JPEG to PDF conversion for free and PDFs are typically smaller files. So once you have your pictures ready, convert them to PDFs and make sure everything on them is legible.

When you apply online, the final stage will be to pay by credit card once you are ready to submit your application. If your wife is able to apply online, I would recommend this over submitting paper forms. The online application removes one of the time consuming tasks of scanning/transcribing the paper documents you provide into an electronic file for distribution around the USCIS.

Microsoft Word has a "Save as type >> PDF" function that we found very useful.

We scanned the document, copy+pasted into a Word doc, then saved it as a PDF file.

One can use the Camscanner app to directly take photos of the documents and it has an option to generate pdf out of it... Very handy app for digitizing any paperwork or docs... Been using it since a long time!

I used a similar app on my iPhone called Genius Scan

Filed: K-3 Visa Country: Canada
Timeline

Hi guys!    We will be filing soon (for my husband)...  We have been married 16 1/2 years (married in 2002)...I lived in Canada with him (after going through the Canadian Immigration process) from 2002-2008... We filed his US Immigration paperwork (K-3) in 2007, he was approved and we moved to Las Vegas in 2008... he has a 10yr Green Card...which expires in March 2019...  I'm still not sure why it says I am a Newbie ..lol as I was in here EVERY day during the K-3 process...I originally was going to ask if people use the online filing as this wasn't an option during our K-3 process... Then found this thread and it appears it is now the preferred method rather than good old snail mail...lol     .... What I don't know is... what happens if the Green Card expires (March 15th, 2019) while everything is still in process? ... Thank you in advance for your replies!

Nothing happens if the 10 year green card expires - he'll still have LPR status, he just won't have proof of his status for travel, new job, renewing drivers license etc.

He should be able to get a stamp in his passport to use as proof as status if needed (via InfoPass appointment), in say mid-February - just take expired green card proof of the pending N-400
