Hi everyone - I filed my N-400 online yesterday. The estimated case completion time is 16 months but I already received notice online that biometrics was scheduled. Is this normal? In all my previous filings, biometrics notice happened 2-3 weeks after filing.

Yes it’s normal. The initial parts of filing online are faster than filing on paper because it’s computerized. I too filed on a Friday and by Saturday my biometrics had been scheduled as well. Don’t worry, everything will come to a screeching halt when you have to wait for your field office to play catch up and get to your application to schedule your interview. ;) Lol. Best wishes to you and I hope your process is relatively quick and painless.

Oh nice, thanks for the info! Looks like it only took about 6 months for you, hoping it's not 16 months for me..!

Yes just under 6 months and my estimated completion time was initially 13 months so don’t fret too much about that number :)

Hello, do we need to include a photo

copy of passport with N-400 application documents?

If you are applying under the 3-year rule, proof of US citizenship of your spouse is needed.

If you are applying under the 5-year rule, it is not required.

Just answer the questions truthfully,  that's all.  You know your personal situation best.

Again, since you are applying under the 5 year rule, you won't be asked to enter in any info regarding your wife/marriage in the online application.

Ive been a PR since 1979  and married since 1980 and for what ever reason under the evidence section it asked for a marriage license. No issue as I had to get certified copy for dependent status under my wife's employer based medical insurance. I figure the system at immigration does thing randomly like this or I was prompted for it as a result of some other answer I gave.

Hi,

Can I travel outside the US if I filed N-400 already? And would that delay the process?

You can travel abroad so long as you have a valid GC (or the stamp in your passport if your green card is expired).

It does not delay processing your N400 in any way.

At your interview, you will have to disclose the travel so that your application can be updated with the new info.

Did anyone get the below message when entering the date you became a LPR? Does it take into account those married to USC? Is this something to ignore while filing online? Our window doesn't open until later this month, but i was just entering some information to save for later.

Just as a data point for anyone following along, I filed my I-751 (removal of conditions on residence) in July 2017. I filed my N-400 online about two weeks ago, about two weeks after I was eligible to file. I just received notice today that my new GC was approved and being mailed to me as of today. I also have my N-400 biometrics scheduled for this Friday, 8/10/18.

I had heard from several people that filing the N-400 as the I-751 is pending 'forces' the I-751 through. It could also just be timing and coincidence too...

Ooooh this is interesting! I filed my ROC in Aug 2017 and just filed my N400 a few days ago...hoping my timeline follows yours! Really don’t want to have to bother with an infopass appointment for a passport stamp!
