I started filling out the I-134 Affidavit of Support and have so many uncertainties and questions....

This is all referencing the most current I-134 form Revision 11/30/16  (As shown on lower left corner of each page)

  1. Part 1 Question 12.  This question is under a heading "Citizenship or Residency or Status".  This heading has questions 11a thru 11e, and then question 12.  Questions 11a thru 11e, I don't have to answer because I am a birth citizen to the USA.  But I'm confused if question 12 is just a continuation of questions for NON-US citizens that had to fill out 11a thru 11e, or if I have to answer it as a birth US citizen?  The question is "I am (fill in age here) years of age and have resided in the United States since (Date).
  2. For the questions about beneficiary spouse and children (which is no spouse, no children) do I leave those lines blank or right N/A or right None?  And questions about my dependents (which I have none) do I leave blank or say None?
  3. Part 3 Question 5.  Value of my personal property.  Obviously, this excludes my house since that is another question.  But kind of of info do you put here?  If I have positive equity on my car loan, should I enter that positive equity as value of my personal property?
  4. Part 3 Question 6.  Market Value of stocks and bonds.  Are you able to put 401k here or no because it's retirement money and not readily liquid money?
  5. Part 3 Question 8b.  Are they asking for total amount left to pay on the mortgage loan?  Or what my mortgage payments are?
  6. Part 3 Question 22a and 26a.  22a asks about previously submitted Affidavits of Support, so I know that is a NONE for me because I never submitted one before.  BUT....  26a for "submitting visa petitions to USCIS on behalf of the following persons" it DOES NOT say previously submitted.  So am I to write in my fiances name here?
  7. And lastly, and this might be a stupid question.  For my phone number.  It asks for Daytime phone and Mobile phone.  Both phones are the same for me.  Should I put the same number in twice?

Thank you to anyone who can help me!!!  :)

The most important thing when filling out these forms is to answer the questions truthfully and literally.  Don't look so much into the question, just answer what the question is asking.

1)  Part one question 12 is under the heading "Citizenship or Residency or Status".  The instructions underneath the heading states to answer the following questions if you are not a US citizen based on your birth in the US.  Since you were born in the USA, you would not fill out that section including question 12.

2)  You will find the answer to your second question in the instructions for the I-134.  The link is provided on the USCIS page right underneath the I-134 form link.  The answer is provided under the heading "How to fill out form I-134".

3)  Other personal property would be things of large value such as a boat or car- things of that nature.  It doesn't specify whether to list things that do or do not have a loan or lien attached to them.  I would just put the amount that the car is worth (because that's what you could sell it for if needed) minus the amount you owe on the car.

4)  If a 401k is not considered a stock or a bond do not list it here.

5)  Here you would put the total amount of the mortgage loan that you owe.  For example, "I own real estate valued at $50,000, I have a mortgage for $32,000."  It's not asking for your mortgage payment, it's asking for debt owed.

6)  Again, this is a time that you have to take the question very literal.  The question is asking if you've ever submitted a visa petition, so your answer would be "yes" if you are the petitioner.  They include this question because people that are joint sponsors also fill out this form.  They would answer "no" because they were not the actual petitioner- they are just a sponsor.

7)  If your daytime number and mobile number are the same, yes.

Take a deep breath, read the questions and just make sure that you answer truthfully and completely.  You'll do fine!

Hello,

Thank you for your response.  It is helpful for me to complete the form.

Absolutely everything is being filled out truthfully.  I;m just paranoid about filling it out correctly because I saw how incredibly specific and careful we had to be filling out the I-129F.  So I don't want to make any mistakes with any assumptions. I did print out the instructions as well before posting my questions, but even those instructions leave the mind to wonder.

Thank you.
