I-130 in Moscow, One Month and No Decision

Hi all,

I submitted by I-130 for my wife Svetlana at the USCIS office in Moscow a month ago. Upon submission, the case officer said everything was in order, just needed to be signed off by an officer, and to call back in 2 weeks. 2 weeks later, there was no action by the case officer. The person on the phone repeated that everything looked in order, but that no case officer had made a decision on it yet. This morning, one month later, I got the same answer upon calling the office, which advised me to call back in a few weeks. I could not get any information on the current timeline for considering I-130s, whether my case is taking longer than usual, or not.

Is this normal? Should a direct filing of an I-130 take so long? Is there any way to talk to a USCIS officer or speed up this part of the process?

Thanks

George

I don't know how the USCIS in Moscow works but I don't think that your petition to be approved so fast, be patient. They have to do a background check on the petitioner and it takes time. I hope you will get good news soon!

I'm surprised you were told to call back in just two weeks. I haven't seen any specifics about the Moscow office before, but less than a month would be incredibly fast. I filed in the London office, which is generally considered fast, and I'm not expecting to hear anything until late May (about three months). Unfortunately, there isn't any way to speed up the process except start preparing the papers you'll need for the next step.

Off topic - I think your wife's name is beautiful. It's in a song I really like by Joanna Newsom.
