New York Times in the spotlight for fakenews Trump-Russia report in February, "looking into" bogus news

Oh how things have gone full circle for the left and their reliance on fakenews.. one fakenews story after another unraveling.

“In the main, it was not true,” former FBI Director James Comey told Congress on Thursday.

He was talking about a February 14 New York Times report titled, “Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence.”

According to that report:

Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.

American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said. The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.

The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation. But the intercepts alarmed American intelligence and law enforcement agencies, in part because of the amount of contact that was occurring while Mr. Trump was speaking glowingly about the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin.

James Comey had a few things to say about the reporting of the New York Times which reported on collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Senator Risch questioned Comey about the Times, asking “So the American people can understand this, that report by the New York Times was not true, is that a fair statement?”

“It was not true,” Comey said. “Again, all of you know this, maybe the American people don’t. The challenge — I’m not picking on reporters about writing stories about classified information… [the challenge is] that people talking about it often don’t really now what’s going on and those of us who actually know what’s going on are not talking about it.”

The New York Times is “looking into” whether one of its big Russia scoops is actually true, after former FBI Director James Comey disputed the report in Thursday testimony before Congress.

The paper of record reported Feb. 14 that U.S. intelligence officials had intercepted repeated communications between the Trump campaign and senior Russian intelligence officials in the year leading up to the election. The news firmly planted the as yet totally unsubstantiated narrative that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to sway the election in his favor.

But Comey characterized the report as almost entirely false Thursday, and The New York Times is now reviewing the report in light of his statements.

So let’s recap.

The New York Times put out a story more than suggesting intel and law enforcement officials supposedly knew Trump-tied associates had engaged in repeated conversations with Russians.

The New York Times also suggested intel and law enforcement officials were concerned about these supposed conversations because Trump just seemed too dang friendly with the Russian president.

The New York Times story was widely used by the left to press forward the mantra Trump stole the election from Clinton, largely by colluding with Russia.

But those particular points of The New York Times story are false. Fabrications. Fake news.

Talk about a travesty of truth. This is why the media has such low rankings with the American people. The mainstream media is all too willing to use whatever means at its disposal, even lies and false narratives, to take down Trump — to further its cries for impeachment and new leadership — all because of a snit fit their heir apparent candidate, Clinton, didn’t actually win the White House.

I think that was a statement of opinion, much like the stories coming out of the NYTimes and WaPo that are branded as news.  The media, even the so called respected media, are nothing but for profit corporations that need the far fetched lightly verified stories to attract dollars.  We used to label tabloids as money grubbing rags, and everyone else has come down to the same level.

Quite funny

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

It's clear the NYT is playing the short game. Attracting readers based on controversy can only be maintained by likewise maintaining controversy. So they need to keep the fakenews coming, once that gravy train stops so too does the readership.

When there are people willing to do first hand video blogs on the ground via Periscope et al and give instant information, the grotesque form of journalism done by the NYT is obsolete.

I think everyone is playing that game now and since Trump is in office it is fair game since they won't be labeled as being a racist, or sexist.  The amount of competition in the news organization is huge and they all need to satisfy their advertisers.

This is hilarious..

NYT Reporter Who Called Sessions Corrupt Forced To Correct His Statement: Actually, He Meant Loretta Lynch

New York Times Washington Editor Jonathan Weisman was forced to retract a tweet Thursday after he insinuated Attorney General Jeff Sessions was corrupt.

Weisman asserted that former FBI Director James Comey testified Sessions asked him directly to call the Russia probe “a matter.” The only problem was the director testified that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch approached him with that request over the Clinton investigation, according to The Washington Times.

This is what happens when fake news media don't vet their information.
