Do we need to recieve and send Packet 3 and 4 before interview ?

We have read multiple comments saying packet 3 and 4 are not necessary. We received our case number from NVC on the phone and it says the status is ready for interview to be scheduled for a while now. I'm confused on if to wait to receive Packet 3 before scheduling interview. Would it be a problem if Packet 3 comes in way after our interview date?

That varies depending on your country. The best thing you can do is going to the Embassy website and find out, but yours specifically says "K visa applicants should not schedule their appointment until after they have received an Instruction package from the Consulate."

There's no packet 4 for K1's in Nigeria.  Packet 3 is just the forms needed and directions for the medical and police report.

https://ng.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/frequently-asked-questions/

Click that link, go to the second question and download the K1 packet.   That's what they send you in the email,  "packet 3".

If it says "ready for interview", go ahead and complete the DS-160, pay the visa fee, and schedule your interview.  Complete your medical and get your police report as soon as you can.

Congratulations!

Is that the relevant pade?

After you have completed the steps on the Immigrant Visa Process on usvisas.state.gov, including paying the necessary fees and submitting the required immigrant visa application form (DS-260), Affidavit of Support, and supporting documents to the National Visa Center (NVC), they will review your file for completeness. Once your case becomes qualified for an interview, NVC will work with us to schedule an interview appointment for you.

You can learn more about the interview process on usvisas.state.gov.

All interviews are by appointment only.  K visa applicants can schedule their appointments and pay the visa application processing fee on the CGI website.  K visa applicants should not schedule their appointment until after they have received an Instruction package from the Consulate.

Also why does it say DS-260 and not DS-190. Makes me think this is outdated

I'm not sure where you're getting that info from-those sound more like the directions for a spousal visa, not the K1.

Follow the directions I gave you and you'll be fine (I did this last year).

You notice you are reading the Immigrant Visa Process you are a J1. That's why it says Ds-260. You go to ustraveldocs.com to fill out your DS-1560. Schedule your interview. You are in the driver seat. You could have been done soon as you got your case#.

I checked my status as well and it says 'ready" . I clicked on a link on the website that brought me to this page on the US embassy ( Lagos) website.

https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/iv-dv-supplemental/LGS - Lagos.pdf

There was no mention of a police report and this document was updated in March of this year.  For recent interviewees, did they ask you for a police report?

Thanks

Please look through the packet on the US embassy website that I posted and you'll see the packet with the police report directions for Nigeria.  I've never seen the packet that you linked.

Where did you find this link?  I can't seem to find the page that it is linked on to see what the page says.

So on the status check page, there is a link with information on how to schedule visa interviews. http://nvc.state.gov/interview

I clicked on it and the page that came up has information on scheduling. Step 2 - register for courier services/other pre interview instructions- has a part where you put the name of a country to get downloadable country specific information on pdf.   This document shows that it was updated in March of this year.  It also does not mention a police report.

I ask specifically about police report and if it is still being requested for because we will need to get one from another country as well and this will delay the process.  We won't be able to schedule the interview because we don't know how long it will take.

How long was it to get a police clearance from Nigeria?

My fiance walked in and got it the same day.

The beneficiary will always need a police report.  I'm not sure why that link doesn't request it but the link that's on the Nigerian US Embassy website does.

You also need to take note that the page you linked is for immigrant visas. If you look in the instructions it says "After NVC schedules your visa interview..."

Those are instructions for an immigrant Visa.  A K1 is considered a non-immigrant Visa with immigrant intent, that's why I K1's schedule their own interview and spousal's are scheduled for them.

Thanks a lot. I told my fiance to just work on getting it from the two countries. He said that of Nigeria is straight forward from the information he got but we are still trying to get details for the other country.

Was the medical clearance also a same day process?

Thanks

The medical is not same day sometimes it says it takes 2 weeks to get your clearance but I think it's actually available in a few days if you call and ask them if it's ready.

No that is not the same document it is old as the fee is $240 not $265.

I called NVC on (603) 334-0700 for my case number. They gave me a case number which I used to check on for the status of my case on https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx. It indicated ready for interview when scheduled.  I contacted LagosIV@state.gov, they reply the next day usually. Told them the case number and beneficiary name, they may ask for petitioner name and DOB. They replied with Packet 3 which contains instructions. This is the exact updated packet 3 that is sent http://photos.state.gov/libraries/nigeria/487468/pdfs/K1_Packet_Final-042016.pdf and a medical letter and pamphlet. I advise that you get all required documents after NOA2 has been issued due to processing times, especially if you have lived outside of Nigeria. Police report in Lagos is done on same day but it defers by country.

I believe you can go ahead an pay the fees and schedule the interview when the case says ready as some people have mentioned, but I was skeptical about this as did read somewhere on an official website not to pay the fees until you have been instructed because the packets are issues by consulate as received from NVC.
