I am the US citizen bringing over my fiancé from Ukraine. I currently have a job that will meet the requirements for the poverty level; however, this was not so in previous years, so last year's tax returns will show me insufficient. Is it enough that I meet the requirement now? Also, I only received this new job this year--will that be deemed "unstable"? Thanks for your help!

It depends on how strict the embassy is. Usually, current income is what is most important. Ukraine I don't believe is too bad of an embassy.

Make sure you get a letter from your employer stating your salary and how long you've been there and that it's a permanent full time position.

I actually had the exact same issue as you and at the interview they ended up not even asking for any financial documents at all and her visa was just issued. So, just submit everything and good luck to you!!!!

Thank you! Maybe I can sleep tonight :) Financial information doesn't come into play until the embassy, correct? Not at the USCIC or NVC

Current income, as proven with employment letter and paystubs, is usually what matters. Tax returns (particularly historic ones) have the dual purpose to show that you are fulfilling your duty as a US citizen in paying taxes, and would also disclose any dependents that may need to be taken into account when determining the poverty limit that's relevant for your situation.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.
