I filed to naturalization based on marriage to my husband US citizen and on the day that NOA was issued, my father passed away, he was non-US citizen and I had to fly on emergency overseas for the funeral. I filled out the form for naturalization and marked him as alive, do I need to update USCIS on this change and on the five days that I was out of the country? Has anybody experienced the same situation? Would appreciate the feedback as this issue hasn't let me sleep at night.

Hi, a long-time lurker, just registered to reply to this.  First of all, I'm very sorry for your loss.  My father passed away after biometrics is done for N-400, and I went to Japan for 6 days.  I just had my interview this week and told that to the officer.  He just corrected my form and that was that.  I passed the test and was approved for naturalization.  So don't worry, you will be fine.

Thanks for your response, Taki, sorry for your loss too, it's very stressful to go through the process and then add to it the loss of the parent. Will wait on the interview and update the officer as you suggest. Congratulations on your approval!
