Getting Sister in Law over on a B2 visa (Philippines)

These responses are infuriating, but I already knew the system was f'ed up. Deport the illegals, all of them. And we really need to stop giving citizenship away to children born to parents who are not either citizens or legal permanent residents (no amendment required here). The politicians, bought and paid for in a corrupt system that's more similar to that of the Philippines than people want to realize or admit, have been screwing the American people on this for decades. This and to a greater extent trade are why someone with Trump's character (or lackthereof) was able to win the presidency.  

Politics aside, there has to be a way to improve my sister in law's chances here.

If there was a way to improve your SIL's chances, we would tell you.  There is no reason to hide the ball for two pages of this thread.  

 

Many of us are in the same boat as you.  We are telling you from experience based on the multiple times that our families have tried unsuccessfully to get visitor visas.  We're just giving you the blunt truth without giving you false hope.

Unfortunately the few bad apples spoil the bunch when it comes to tourist visas. Everyone is assumed to have immigrant intent. Guilty until proven innocent. 

 

@SensibleInvestor I think she should still apply regardless. Even if the odds are low there's a slight chance she might get a nice CO and luck out. If you think it's worth $160, that's all it takes to find out.

Yeah, I appreciate that. You guys have been helpful for us in the past. It's just frustrating that the system is so screwed up that it's so difficult for people to come here the right way but they refuse to make life difficult for people who are here illegally. Thanks.

It is frustrating but that's life. When we immigrate and leave family members behind, some of us just have to accept the fact that the price we pay for our choice to move across the world is that we won't see certain loved ones again. Whether that be for financial, medical or visa reasons -  many of us face this situation.

Yes, there are those cases but so what now we just give up and not give anyone tourist visas whatsoever? It's unfair to the rest of us.

Yes, the system is difficult to put it in light terms and the election was frustrating and just flat unexpected. As far as the actual advice goes, my cousin tried once already and the fact is they do not look at the documents. Still bring them BUT know to put everything you can in the application itself. There are these pop up boxes where you get to type up some things in more detail. In your case sounds like she really needs to use the job responsibilities box to explain her work situation. Also, through some examples that I've seen family is often rejected twice and is accepted on the 3rd time, so, this sucks but don't give up.

 

Also, when then my friend went in to try and get her visa she tried to pull up the documents without their request to make sure and tell them that we have ALL the letters of invitation, financials, reasons to come back, etc. and she was told that she is not allowed to push documents unless they were asked for.

People say the few bad ones make it worse on all of us.. but TBH if we were all able to get visitor visas and come here, i bet 90% of the people on VJ would be changing their mind after baggage claim and getting married!

 

an invitation letter would do more harm then good.. no one cares about her reasons for coming, only her reasons to go home.. having USC family here makes that even harder.

its only frustrating bc being from a third world country you can make alot of money in america and send it home.. that is why! making 15/hour here is alot of money back home! so most would come here and work and ship that back home.. if every country was the same economy wise and safety wise, you wouldnt have people wanting to come here and work for that!

Yeah, I understand that.

My SIL used to work for a major pharmaceutical company before she started out on her own. Ex-coworkers were sent here by GSK for work and then just stayed illegally. Not cool. We wouldn't have to be this strict on tourist visas if the government did a good job handling those who are here.

 

Instead, we have illegals getting driver's licenses, having anchor children who are given citizenship, getting scholarships for college, etc. There was a certain illegal named Jean Jacques who was released from prison after serving 20 years for attempted murder, ICE asked Haiti to take him back, Haiti said "no", and then this guy was just released. A few months later he murdered a girl right in this town. I'm in favor of deporting all of them, even the people who quietly wash dishes or pick vegetables and try to mind their business. But come on, we couldn't even deport THIS guy after he was in jail for 20 years for attempted murder?  Now we'll be paying to keep him in prison until he's dead.

Deporting the illegals (can of worms on how to do so even if it somehow got political support...) wouldn't impact your SIL's case. "Giving away citizenship" wouldn't either (albeit so-called "anchor babies" make up an extremely small percentage of new USCs nowadays). The issue in your SIL's case is others who have abused the tourist visa system plus, IMHO, the relative ease of opportunity to adjusting status once in the US.

 

I suggest staying on topic of your own / your SIL's case.

Illegals have nothing to do with your sister in law not getting a visitor visa. People who abused their visitor visas by either overstaying or just never leaving are the people responsible for your sister in law not being able to obtain a visitor visa.
