It went very well. I gave the border patrol my passport and the "mystery" envelope. He asked for my fingerprints. Then, he walked me to a waiting room and someone called my name 5 minutes later. He asked me the name of my petitioner, if I checked in suitcases and reminded me about the 90 days and that I would not be allowed back in the states is I was leaving before getting married.

Thanks to all of you, knowing more about it made the process easier.

Today, I applied for my ssn. It went very well!!!! I am now allowed to find a job!!!!!

If you came on a K1 visa, you cannot work until you have married, filed AOS/EAD/AP and receive your EAD.  That's the down fall of a K1...

You are not allowed to work on a K-1. Your Social Security card will state "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" (or updated similar language now). You need to marry, file for AOS + EAD (and AP is suggested too), then wait fore the EAD to arrive. ETA: 3-4 months.

so why did the employee told me I can find a job and use the letter he gave me as a proof as I can work??

i have no idea what he told you specifically or why he would say that. But the fact remains that you cannot work until you either get an EAD or a green card.

For a technical standpoint, you can request an EAD on your K-1 status. However, it takes 90-120 days for approval, and expires when your I-94 expires...which is 90 days after entry. So it's completely impractical.

Edit: To clarify, you can look for a job. You can even apply for a job. However, you cannot start working until you have a valid EAD.

That's what I thinking as well. But I don't want to screw it up!!! I am still waiting on my visa, 10 weeks after my interview. Driving me bunker

11 weeks?? Is that normal? Were you without a passport that whole time?  I've only just received the NOA2 so interview not scheduled yet, but I certainly was surprised to read this.

Idk why it took so long. I went for my interview at the end of March. The lady said I was accepted and I should get my visa and passport in the mail 5 days later. At the end of April, I sent an email and I then learned that they wanted an original paper (divorce certificate). I had brought the notorized translation and not the French original one. Then took them up to June 7 to approve and send my visa and passport.

They can take up to 60 days after the interview to make a decision. Or 60 days after they received the last paper they are requesting.
