The 601 waiver was approved almost 6 weeks back by Vermont but the Consulate at Montreal still has not received any kind of internal notice to them from Vermont. According to Montreal, they cannot move forward with the visa until then.

Any info on how long can this wait take ?

Nope. Still no notice at Montreal.

After many calls to Vermont, I was finally told the Waiver does show approved in computer.

That was a big relief. But Vermont thinks, the Consulate should have been informed automatically by computer as matter of procedure. Since it did not happen as expected, now they dont know where

to look or what to do for me.

Any advise on this forum on what can I do now?

* Montreal immigrant visa section has asked me not to call them anymore.

* USCIS 800 number gets you to Application Support Center ( a call center )

and they say "This is not Vermont". So Vermont is unreachable directly. They kindly

just repeat what is expected to happen. But if anything goes out of normal expectation,

they say we dont know why - just keep waiting.

I am afraid my case may turn into a statistic.

geronimostyle,

Look back through some of the posts here, there was another member in the same boat with their visa approval. PM them and see if you get any answers. The only other option would be for your fiance/spouse to show up at the border-if they are close to the border and try to cross. I'm surprised that Montreal told you to stop calling but they're not that friendly over there. I hope you get resolution soon. And please keep me posted as I'm sure this might help me when my turn comes.

What do you mean "try to cross the border"? She does not have the visa.

Montreal will issue AFTER the 601 confirmation is received in their office through official consulate channel.

My understanding from reading your post was the the approved I-601 waiver was in the US computer system. If that was so, I thought that she might be able to go to the border and see if she can go across that way, they log into the computer system and gets gets the right documents to enter. I was in no way saying that she should go across the border without the proper documentation. If you guys weren't getting answers at the consulate level maybe, maybe answers could be found at the border. That was all I was saying.

Geronimostyle, have you received 601 confirmation from Montreal?

I was hoping to read some news as to how long it took you guys to get a response. I'm not sure if my previous posts offended you, and if they did, I am sorry.

When the I-601 was approved from Vermont, did they issue you any paperwork stating it was approved? If they did, maybe you can color photo copy it and send it to the US Embassy in question, and also give the contact information of the Vermont Office so that they can verify that the paperwork is authentic?

Or perhaps it is time to engage in the services of an experienced attorney, or maybe make a request to a member of congress/senate?

that seemed to do the trick for me! i faxed to the consulate a copy of the approval letter along with a note stating that it had been in excess of 30 days since approval. 24 hours later the I-601 mysteriously showed up!

MTL might just be giving you the runaround as they have to quite a few people on here. If you go to the Canada forums you will see what I mean. Hopefully this will get resolved soon.

Good luck
