Best of luck! Trust me, there are a ton of people here on VJ in your exact situation (separated, wife is pregnant, long waiting times for visas, etc.) This is a good place to come sometimes just to realize you're not alone. I hope your wife has some support in US to help her.

Yes, go ahead and apply right away if you have all the paperwork ready. The sooner you start, the better really.

 

Also, one small bit of hope: some service centers are faster than others. You might be lucky and get one of the faster ones. So there's that!

If you company has headquarters in the US and you've worked for them for over a year, you can ask if they can transfer you to the US. Maybe it is feasible/useful for them to have you in the US. If that is the case, they can sponsor you an L1 visa which is not subject to caps like H1B. Then you can AOS in the U.S. 

 

L1 can be expensive because of lawyers/fees, though.

You were misinformed.  In March 2016, my attorney told me, "The last case from Taiwan we represented took 6 months from filing to the interview"........we filed in Apr 2016, and now 13 months later, we have our CR1 visa in hand.

 

Plan on about a year for the process.......even with an expedite.

Everybody goes through AP, including security checks. It normally takes days, sometimes weeks, rarely months, and very rarely years. The issue with immigrating from Pakistan is that there does tend to be a longer AP for background checks. The security check process is a black box and there is no expedite for it. I hope you don't have a longer AP and the odds are you won't, but just be aware that it is possible (i.e. don't buy tickets until you have the visa in hand, which applies to anybody coming from anywhere).

It's currently taking 12-14 months from filing to approval. Pregnancy is not considered a cause for an expedite (except maybe where there are severe medical complications, but then it's just a normal medical expedite).

Just apply asap and hope you get the fastest service center. Make sure the paperwork is all set and current wait time is between 9 months to an year. Good Luck!

how can you say 9 months ? is it backed by some solid fact or just a number

Just looking at some old timelines will give you an idea. You can filter by the country and service centers too!

You could apply for the visit visa but that is very tough to get approved.

Lots of people visit whilst the application is in process, how have you visited before?
