Should the Marriage Certificate first name match the K-1 Visa "given name"?

Vietnamese problem here.

On Vietnamese passports and the K-1 visa's, the 'given name' is listed as the middle name then the first name, all as one name. This has been ongoing since April of 2016.

The woman at the Social Security Office gave us such a hard time and told us her Marriage Certificate needs to match her visa 'given name'. So we had her marriage certificate's first name changed as her real middle name followed by her first name, and then left her middle name blank.

I feel we have made a huge mistake now. Her marriage certificate's 'first name' wont match her AoS forms 'first name'. Because for all the AoS forms we are entering her first and middle name as it is listed on her birth certificate, the same we listed it as her k-1 visa forms.

We are filling the AoS forms out now.

1.) Should we change all the AoS forms (G-325a, I-864, I-485, I-765, I-131, G-1145) listing her first name as it appears on the visa and then leaving the middle name blank? But it wont match her old i-129 forms.

2.) Then, should we write in the sections for "other names used" as how her real first and middle names are listed on her birth certificate and i-129 forms?

3.) She already filled out her I-693 as her name as it appears on her birth certificate but with my last name, signed it, and it is in a seal envelope from the doctor (she needed 1 more vaccination shot when she got to the US). If we change the other AoS forms to match her name on her visa then should we just add a supplement form to the outside of the seal envelope explaining what we did?

4.) Anyone here come to the US after April 2016 on a K-1 and have name issues?

Am I over thinking this all?

My fiancee's maiden name is not the issue. Her given name is the issue. On her visa, her given name (first name) is her middle name followed by her first name. Ex: her real first name is 'Vy', her middle name is 'Thi Thuy'. So her visa given name is 'Thi Thuy Vy'.

That is how they have been doing it on the Vietnamese visa's since April 2016, which I'm ok with.

So I had her marriage certificate in the same format. I'm just worried that I should not have put her marriage certificate in that format.

Here is what I did with my wife's K1 petition.

Her first name is <FNAME>, two middle names are <MNAME1> <MNAME2>, and last name is <LNAME>.

Here VN passport lists her as <LNAME> <MNAME1> <MNAME2> <FNAME>, as customary for a Vietnamese name.

Here is what I put on her DS160:

Last name = <LNAME>

Given name = <FNAME> <MNAME1> <MNAME2>

Her K1 Visa shows her name exactly as what I put down on her DS160.

When we applied for her SSN, I put down:

Last name = <LNAME>

First name = <FNAME>

Middle name = <MNAME1> <MNAME2>

Same format when we applied for our marriage certificate, her driver's license, AOS, and ROC. However, for banking and other financial documents, I just use one middle name (or abbreviate it).

Any updates to this issue? I also face the same problem today when getting our marriage license. My fiance's name is in the wrong order and we're not sure what to do.

Could someone confirm what @frontgear posted as a working fix for the name issue? I am also located in Fort Bend county in Houston, TX.

@Noktor Not sure how you listed your fiancee's name on the DS-160 and K1 application, but if you did it as I had described above, her name should be listed in that order. Regardless, when she receives her Green Card, you could update her SS, but if she decides to change her name when she applies for naturalization, she/you will have tons of paperwork to fill out/mail to get her name changed to reflect her new name.

There are so many Vietnamese living in Fort Bend, Harris and surrouding areas, I am surprised they are giving you a hard time on the marriage license application.

Yep, I am getting so many different answers to this problem that I am totally confused on what I should do. Some people to say don't worry about it and that I can always change it later when applying for GC (I-485) or if she decides to get naturalized on the N-400. I want to know what the best, quickest and most easiest way to go about getting her name correct to avoid future complications. I am in the process making an appointment at the SSA to apply for her SSN and hope that process will go smoothly. What things must I bring with me to apply for a SSN for her? I'm assuming they don't need to see the marriage license/certificate?
