Next steps after NOA2

With my case number in hand, can one begin to fill out the DS 160 and schedule the interview before getting the confirmation/instruction package from the US embassy in Lagos or should I tell my fiance in Nigeria to wait until he hears from them?

I plan on telling him to start working on the police report and medical exam so that we can get things moving. The NOA2 expires in 3 months.

What do you all think?  Has anyone recently received a package from the embassy in Lagos?   We requested for Abuja but it seems Lagos is the only embassy that handles the K1 visa. Thanks

As stated before, you've got to wait until your status says "ready for interview".  You'll need your confirmation page from the DS-160 to have your medical exam.  You shouldn't complete the DS-160 until the embassy has received your case and is ready for you to schedule your interview.  The only thing you can really do at this point is obtain the police report.

After it says "ready for interview", you can complete the other steps very quickly.

The embassy will likely email you (the petitioner) with the next steps as soon as they receive your case.

Can one get the police report from any police station in Nigeria or Lagos or are there specific ones that the embassy prefers?

Click that link, go to the second question and download the K1 packet.   That's what they send you in the email,  "packet 3".
