My fiancee and I have not seen each other for over six months waiting for the processing to take place.  She is from Iran so it is nearly impossible to visit her at home. I have been told if we travel during this time it might delay the K1 process… I think we are within a month of getting it if the USCIS is correct.  My question is should we avoid travel (we are thinking Ecuador) at this period in the process or will it have no effect?

Second pinned message on this board: "Yes, you can visit!"

You can see each other and travel together, etc... this won't have any effect. Where did you hear it would be delayed, and what part of the process, specifically, would be delayed?

She should not travel to and from the United States AFTER the K1 is approved (and before you're married) as it's basically a one-way-pass into the United States to get married, but can do so freely while your application is being processed. The only thing that may cause a delay is if you receive an RFE (request for evidence) and have to wait until you get home to respond to it. That is, quite frankly, the only possible part of the process I can think of that would cause a delay.

While waiting for NOA1 and NOA2, my fiance and I traveled to see each other at least 3 times for extended periods.

I have an Iranian friend that was in the K1 process and traveled to 3 different countries during processing and his attorney said that caused a delay in the approval of his K1 visa because the background check had to go to the places he visited.  I don’t know if this is accurate but is what my friend told me.

The background checks/Police Checks are really for places your fiancee lived, not traveled too.  During our wait, my wife and I traveled to Dubai while waiting for the NVC to process the case, then my wife spent a month in Tajikistan for work while we were waiting for the interview.  Neither of these caused any delays nor were they issues during the interview.  I do believe the Dubai trip was helpful as it also showed more proof of relationship and a continuing relationship during the visa process.

Best of luck.

thanks for the advise!  the great news is we got our NOA2 on Saturday!!! I am so excited ... I am going to spend time with her in Armenia before her interview.  I am very happy to get past that milestone! My guess is based on the info on this site she will be in America in 6 to 8 weeks :-) !!!!!

I know each case is different but being that Richard and I seem to both be engaged to Iranian women I thought I'd ask.

1) How long does it take to get an interview after the petitioner receives his NOA2.

2) How long of a wait for an Iranian woman to receive her K1 Visa after the U.S. petitioner has received his NOA2.

My NOA2 was just a one page approval with no directions.
