Could use some help here - my fiancee is from Algeria but has no military card.  He did not serve, nor was he exempted from service.  Honestly, it seems like they forgot about him.

Is the military card (or an official exemption) required to bring to the interview at the embassy?

Many thanks for your input.

Lots of applicant shared their story in startimes forum it is in Arabic they update lots of story about interview lots of them were not asked about it last year but this year some said they ask about any prouve ( exemption or delay or any think els ) that was in last fab , last month some shired their experience and said they had interview without any expemtion or delay they just ask them to sing one paper about it for those who is under 26 old years , I think it is not a big deal as long as he doesn't any big problem with army like if he is in the wanted list , he can bring the police certificate  B2 that  show any prospective problem the the gov so don't panic he can pass the interview , good luck to everyone inshallah .

Evidence of military enrollment?  Military participation is mandatory in Algeria I think until age 26.  I'm a bit fuzzy on the details.  My fiancee is 30 years old and not on the wanted list so he's fine, but he doesn't have a card.  I'm curious if that is a problem for the interview.

I was in the same situation back in 2006. I was 28 years old. they did not seem to care back then as long as a had a clean court records. they asked me about it, and I told them I did'nt have any paper. back then I did my interview in Tunisia because the embassy in Algeria was close.

I dont think that military card is necessary in your case for consuar processing, however when approved and leaving Algeria they could arrest him and make trouble for him in Algerian airport which I dont really wish for him.

could you please supply me with a foto of packet3 that you received from the embassy? what document they ask you to provide if possible I need to assemble my file because we just go approved, please help us.

He needs to try to get the exemption. My fiance was asked for the card during the interview and says that it is extremely important and my fiance also says that someone without exemption or service record will cause trouble for him either during the interview or later (when trying to visit Algeria)

Edit.....my fiance was 40 years old when he was interviewed for the k1 visa.

Oh wow. I didn’t realize this was from 2017! This is why I shouldn’t try to read without my glasses   😉

Was it difficult getting the military exemption?

Not really.  The government had announced that certain individuals born before 1990 (I think - don't quote me on that) could now get their military card without having served.  He had to go back a few times before he finally got it in-hand.  The queues were long and there was some misinformation provided in the process.  It took a few weeks overall and 3 trips but he got it.

Hi

What if my fiance is too young to be exempted? (he's 28) Does he have to serve in the military before coming to the states? Will they not give him the visa if he has no proof of being exempted or a military card? Is there no way around it? He's the youngest of two brothers, when he went to go ask to be exempted, (because he takes care of his parents) they told him that because he is the youngest of two brothers, and because his brother didn't serve, that he has to go. Any information would really help.

Thanks

There have been several different opinions and answers on this thread regarding this question....some saying “no big deal” and others saying the opposite.

I believe @lannlou2017 fiance was exempted because the Algerian government opened a window that said “anyone born 1990 or before can be exempted as long as you file for exemption before.......(not sure of the date) and he received his exemption during that time. (She will correct me if I am wrong)

There are several reasons for exemption.....attendance at a university or school (but I believe it is only a temporary exemption), medical reasons, and the support of family....parents (that usually falls on the oldest son and the parents are not working).

Is your fiance’s older brother married? (That can also play a factor....if his brother is supporting a family of his own). Did he attend (or is currently attending school)? Is he working now?
