Hi all,

I received a Request for Initial Evidence (I-485) for an Adjustment of Status Application about 4 weeks ago. USCIS is requesting that I find a joint sponsor. The person who's offered to help me out is retired but they meet all the qualifications listed on the I-864 instructions.

Can a retired person be a joint sponsor? I haven't found any information online so I would appreciate your input/feedback.

Thank you in advance,

Felipe

Read the instructikns sheet for the I864 form.... they will need proof of income from retirement streams, and or proof of liquid assets

I have and I am still unsure what type of documentation would qualify. Does a retirement stream need to be created or do retired folks receive them on a regular/monthly basis?

Thanks a bunch, y'all!

Since they're no longer working, what sort of evidence of income should they submit?

Unless they have a large sum of cash/investments then I would probably say assets, such as a car or house.

My joint sponsor is retired and we just included her investment portfolio and deed to her house along with an evaluation.
