Hello All,

Wife and I are planning to file for my Green card and need some help on it. She is a US citizen and she does not work (Hence no Pay stubs or Tax returns). We are looking to apply for my Green Card and submit the I864 (Affidavit of Support). The problem is that we do not have a co-sponsor and plan to use just liquid assets (Gold) worth atleast $300k that we have back home in India in my wife's name.

Would that suffice to pass this hurdle?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. The information on assets says the following:

  • The assets must be convertible to cash within 12 months.
  • The applicant must show that the assets can be removed from the country where they are located. Many countries have limits on cash or liquid assets that can removed from the country.
  • The net value of assets must be at least five times the difference between the sponsor's income and 125 percent of the poverty guideline for the household size.

Gold can be easily converted to cash within 12 months and there is no limit as such to get them to the us within 12 months. These clauses are very confusing.

She is currently living in the US with me since the last 2 months and has been traveling here since the last 7 years of our marriage during which we were in India. Would this help?

Regards

Some countries would not allow assets like that to leave their country, as long as yours can and is convertible to cash you should be fine.
