Trump administration approves social media checks for Visa applicants

I don't care if they look at public FB pages. It has been a problem in the past when members here post that the CO was not able to view their FB
page so they denied them. That has happened. Why not at the very least request they are shown their FB account when in the interview then.
I have also read several times that beneficiaries were asked their  FB passwords which I find over the top unless there is good cause.
In the end it is up to the beneficiary to disclose this or decide to not get the visa.
If they catch a guy or woman that is playing several women online for immigration benefits then hey that's great.
If they catch someone with terrorist jargon posts that's great.
If they harass people then it becomes a problem.

My point got lost on you. No one has an issue with knowing who is entering the country. I was talking about the issue of Kirchner being

Reducing immigrants =/= being anti-immigration. This is merely a presumption, and a bad one. Trump wants better immigration controls. Guess whos administration the USCIS is operating under now?

I agree with you. I think there is a lot you can learn from FB pages, and there is a lot that shouldn't affect immigration decisions. The question however, is what to do if the applicant doesn't have a FB account? To protect those without FB accounts, USCIS should not be allowed to ask for passwords and such. Have someone do the research in those cases they think checking out social media activity would be relevant.

I read a threat just today here where the CO stated this : you have no wedding photos posted on facebook, you are denied. CO's gone rogue don't mix with FB discretion.

I would be screwed then as I hardly ever post any photos on FB, and Katya doesn't want an account until after she completes naturalization.  I always laugh at people that post photos while they are on vacation.  Do they want to advertise that they are away and their house is empty?

Yeah that's pretty out of control. I have a decent amount of friends who don't have FB or social media, just because it's not their thing. Someone shouldn't be treated suspiciously for something they don't have.

I'll be honest.  In situations like those I do not think that it's just the Facebook but that they're using it as a scapegoat

It seems people trade the stress of work for the stress of having to post every minute of their lives on FB. I never understood that.

I mean these aren't people who are applying for any type of visa so they're not like looking to hide anything. Most of them are just super hipster and FB has become "uncool" amongst them....there's nothing wrong with detaching from technology to an extent.
