Duterte puts Chelsa in her place

My wife and I have spent a lot of time in the Philippines.  We go every year.  We were there again this April.

 

Duterte is not a dictator.  Also, he is popular among Filipinos in both the Philippines and the United States.

 

However, he has done nothing to alleviate the grinding poverty, and has done little to end the pervasive corruption.

 

He shredded the Philippines constitution by suspending due process of the law and sanctioning extra-judicial, vigilante-style justice on a national level.  This is the same thing he got away with on a local level when he was the mayor of Davao.  

 

He is only targeting drug dealers.  Murderers and rapists get a pass.   I wonder how many innocent people have been murdered by the police, well-known for their corruption.

I'm sure as she was constantly belittled as a child due to being the daughter of a President, and a teen at the time when the scandal broke, Chelsea would have been upset at what her father put her family through. But please do tell us how soldiers committing rape is acceptable in society...?

I think Castro and Chavez get a lot of defense from the Bernie Sanders crowd.  Also, not sure anyone is actually defending him, they are just bringing to light the hypocrisy of another member of the Clinton family.

It's interesting to see the MOR/MDRs running to defend a dictator, nevertheless. The irony seems to be lost on some people.

Again I'm not exactly sure what hypocrisy would be present in a person who would have been a child during the time of any unproven sexual assault accusations against her father and a teenager during the time of his oval office affair. Rape is unacceptable and all that was brought to light was an angry pseudo dictator having his feel feels hurt that someone on the internet said his behavior wasn't appropriate. It's disturbing when people don't seem to understand that.

That's the irony I was talking about.

 

Apparently, Chelsea can't have an opinion on rape, because her father allegedly raped someone. Some people among us are still living in biblical times.

I think Chelsea is an adult now, and presumably educated, so I am sure she has more knowledge of the allegations of her father now.  I could care less about Duterte, but if I were her, it would not be a topic I would want to wade into.

Who said she can't have an opinion?  But like all the "optics" the MDL is raving about related to Trump, it does not look good for the daughter of a former leader of a large country to comment on a leader of another country without denouncing her father.

Why not? Why can't Chelsea speak about rape? Does she need to have been personally grabbed by her genitals before she can have an opinion?

Sure, but then maybe she should also include her father as a reputed rapist.  Otherwise, it is hypocritical.  No difference from anyone else that criticizes a person for something, but defends a member of their family accused of doing the same thing.

I don't think her father was convicted on rate in the real world, but in an alternate fact place he might.

 

Point is, that as an American she has every right to voice her opinion, and call a spade just that when she sees one.
