A very interesting thread to read is one that was started by a USCIS employee who used to adjudicate petitions. He gave some very good insight into the process. It's quite an old thread but I'll see if I can find it.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

If you could find it that would be awesome!  Every now and then during research I come across those threads from actual employees/consular officers, and they are very informational.

Yes I did apply for IR1/CR1 for my husband. So is there no fee that has to be paid at the embassy? I wasn't quite sure to begin with.

If you have paid $325 & $120 for DS260 and AOS respectively, you don't have to pay anything at the embassy. Once the visa is approved, before traveling to US an amount of $220 has to be paid for the Green Card. This payment can be done only after visa approval and not before that as it needs the A number which is mentioned on the visa. At the end of the interview you are informed about this payment by the CO. I hope my answer is helpful for you. Good luck for the interview.!! Keep smiling 😘😘

The only thing that I can recall sending to NVC that had already been sent to USCIS was the marriage certificate and the divorce decree from my previous marriage. Everything else was something new that USCIS didn't already have (my birth certificate, my police certificates and translations, copy of my passport, affidavit of support file).

I can assure you that when I got to my interview in London last December the officer had the complete file in front of him. It was exactly as I had sent it to USCIS minus the red card document wallet I had sent it in - I knew that would get trashed as soon as it arrived at Phoenix lock box but it held everything together on its UPS journey to Phoenix.

Now, Phoenix and Chicago lock boxes do scan all the documents onto an electronic file. The USCIS agents work from electronic files to keep the paper files from getting dirty, creased, torn, lost. But they also keep the paper copy on the desk whilst they work the electronic file and review your submission. The paper file is stamped once approved (I saw the stamp on mine at the embassy).  There is a YouTube video from USCIS Nebraska showing them doing exactly this.

When I got to my POE last December the big envelope was sliced open in front of me. There inside was my entire file again. All our pictures, messages, my travel itineraries, etc, etc. the officer flicked through it in front of me. This was the envelope that the embassy sent me with my passport.

Wow, this is awesome info.. Very informative. ;)

By chance, do you have the youtube link or title of the video that you can post here?

Love that our POE "sealed envelope" is all of our stuff.. Was curious as to what was in the envelope. ;)

Good morning my vj family just received an email from nvc stating that am in the queue for an interview. For those who got this how long after did you receive interview notification.

Congratulations. I got it within 2 days of my CC. Hope you have the spreadsheet URL (created by @JBMG). The interviews are scheduled when embassy shares the Open slots & NVC assigns you one. Good Luck!

I had already sent my last 3  years of tax returns to NVC. Would my husband need them again at the interview?

They need only transcripts. They usually ask the latest transcript, unless NVC has asked you to carry others. Wait for your P4(interview letter) to have the entire list of what you need to carry.

Yes, you have to pay. But not at the embassy - you can pay it online. You need the A number to pay it. A number would be given to you after an approved interview.

Yes I think where they are so overwhelmed with so many files they tend to make errors. I got a checklist to bring W2 to interview and I know that I sent them. They also placed an x to say that the person didn't file 2016 tax returns but I never ticked that box.

So that makes it the additional document they need now. While they can make errors and miss the documents it's always advisable to carry the exact set of documents sent to NVC + any additional asked.
