Thank you so much for clarifying and sharing your experience. :) Def makes sense that the NVC is ok with a copy of a signature for the AOS form as they're ok with copies of everything else.. But def need your original with a wet signature for the interview. :)

No problem. This was one of the issues I could not get a concrete answer for while doing my research here on Visajourney to educate myself on the process. I had to rely on my attorney to clarify this. The reason it is so confusing is because you have to distinguish between what NVC requires and what the embassy requires. Here we have the announcement from NVC:

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/news/ink-signature-no-longer-required-on-affidavits-of-support.html

That announcement is from NVC, and there they are specifically addressing the part of the process that is at NVC. However, they include the very confusing wording that I quote:

"This improvement will simplify the submission of financial evidence in support of a visa application, and decrease the rate of visas refused only because the required documents were not available at the time of the visa interview."

That sure does make it sound like you do not need to bring the wet signature! But the embassy can still ask for whatever it wants, so better to have the wet signature. In our case that meant having the cosponsor express mail it down to us at no small expense, but at least we had it!

VERY CONFUSING.

My husband already have transcript, w2. He going to Philippines my country for 2 weeks by Jul21 for our  baby's 1st bday. So he will bring those docs here.

Not possible to have submitted 2016 transcripts because you could only order those from the IRS after June 15th.. 9 days ago.. Yes, he could have supplied the w2, 1099 and copies of his tax return. That I believe.. So it's very possible that they just want to make sure you have those documents for the interview..

I ordered my 2016 tax transcripts in April and I was able to submit them with my paperwork. Do you know if they have a blackout point? Just curious to know....

Hi @Eignes1009 Sorry for saying the following.. I was told  by the IRS that only after June 15th I could get a letter saying that I didn't file in 2016... Which makes sense.. But my error was thinking (assuming) this was the same for all transcripts.. BIG Apologies for writing the following and thinking you were mistaken..

I still stand by those comments. Our visa paperwork was looked over very meticulously when we presented it at the interview and the wet signature was absolutely required. The person reviewing our documents thumbed through every single page of the Affidavit of Support for myself and for our cosponsor and they studied the signature to make sure it was authentic. My attorney made a point of telling me we absolutely needed to have the wet signature.

The announcement that wet signatures are no longer required is extremely misleading, very confusing, and completely false. The way it is stated in the article makes it sound like just a photocopy is ok, but my opinion is that NVC allows photocopies of the signature for purposes of completing the case, while the wet signature is required at the embassy.

Thanks @cordoba2015. The information is VERY VERY useful. Though I have the wet ink signature with me to take it to the interview still was struggling to find the answer. Can I please bother you with one more question? Initially when you and your co sponsor sent the documents to NVC...were they sent electronically or mail?? And you were asked for updated AOS only for 2016 tax return?

Oh so Many little things to take care of..

i sent email to emabassy asking if our signature can be scanned.

They replied me that they prefer original, but scanned signature is acceptable. Maybe it depends on embassy

Hello, by chance on your checklist where it says to bring 2016 w2s, are/were you requested to provide an updated AOS form as well?

 @claudia88031  @Auds @Gege6

You 3 already had your interview.. Did you have to submit a new AOS form with your 2016 w2's? If so, did it have a 'wet signature"?

Thank you,

JBMG

Did you find out about your interview date before or after it was transferred to the consulate?

As far as I know - he had filed his 2016 returns when he was prepping to send his documents to NVC.

  1. He filed electronically with the NVC, his country qualifies.
  2. his AOS had  his 2016 return while he sent his documents to NVC
  3. He did not have to modify his AOS when he had his interview

@cordoba2015 - please let me know if I am wrong.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah, the stressful part is that there is not one answer for everyone. If in doubt, take the wet signature, but if they tell you a scan is fine, you have your answer.

So point # 1 is a known reason for a wet ink to be asked. For all the documents sent electronically, the original signature are required to be brought at the interview. As NVC never vetted them.
