Also can you tell me if you sent the following to the NVC?

  1. 2015 tax returns +W2s
  2. Federal Tax Return
  3. 2016's W2s

Also, have you filed 2016 returns as "Married filing Separately"?

My scan date was 4/25 and CC on 6/21

This is what I submitted to NVC:

- 2015 tax transcript + W2s

- 2016 tax extension + W2s

I filed "Married filing jointly" because I was able to obtain Tax ID number for my spouse but if you do not have Tax ID number then you should file as "Married filing separately".

Honestly the CO does not care if it is joint or separate. They only care if the 2016 tax return was filed. As I said you may get lucky and the CO accepts the 2016 tax extension but after reading many interview cases I saw that for the interviews that were conducted after April 15, most of the applicants were requested their recent year tax return if they filed an extension. If they did not bring the tax return with them then the CO asked them to submit after the interview which just causes additional delay. To be on the safe side, I will suggest to file the 2016 tax and take the copy with you. If they ask then submit if not then no need.

I agree with newcomer, have your husband do both the 2015 and 2016 taxes.. "married filing separately" You can't file since you don't have a US TIN or SSN.. IRS told me to write "NRA - NO US TIN, NO SSN" in the SSN of my 1040 form.

He can file today, bring copies to your interview.. Honestly that the best advice.. This way your safe.. Not sure what the benefits of trying to file together since you haven't been living in the US in the same household?

I agree with this as well.  I think the extensions are ok, but better safe of course.  I think the only time that an extension could raise some serious suspicions is if you had your interview say in September or October and you bring your 2016 extension.  I could see that being a problem.  The whole point of an extension is to let the IRS know you won't have your taxes done by the April date.  So you could be ok given that we are at the end of June, but if your are really worried about it then just go ahead and file as mentioned above.

Not really sure on how the extensions work for the interview phase.  While they are acceptable for tax season and submitting to NVC, I would think it would be ok during your interview as well.  Maybe some one else who has experience with this can answer a bit more thoroughly, but I see no reason to worry if you have all previous tax years including your tax extension (with proof that you actually filed one to the IRS) and I would even include the W-2 for 2016 to go with it.  If you have already gotten your 2016 tax return completed I would bring that.  Each persons situation is different but I feel if you are honest and you do everything right and provide consistent and legit evidence to your situation you should be ok.

  1. If NVC only reviews the documents to be sent to NVC, I presume I can still carry the tax extension application and it's acknowledgement.
  2. Yes, I shall carry the 2016 W2, @JBMG also suggested the same.

Many Thanks for taking time to provide an input.

I would presume so yes.  If that is all you have is the tax extension along with everything else, then I would assume you will be ok.  A tax extension is a completely legal and acceptable thing.  You had no checklists from NVC and were not told to provide anything further (unless instructed further), so I think you are safe. :)  In any case, update us with how things go.  It helps tremendously.

In my case, we submitted

1) last three years federal tax returns (2013,14 &15)

2) W2s and 1099 (for all the bank accounts) for all three years

3) Along with that the W2 for 2016.

Got CC without checklist. We have interview on 11th July. However, on 20th of June we received an email from the US embassy in Delhi that we need to bring the 2016 federal tax return to complete the file for interview. Though we were anyways ready with 2016 tax return, the email confirms that embassy and the CO definitely need the latest document.

I am very please to announce that my mom's visa was adjudicated yesterday.  They told her to wait a week to receive the visa.  It was a long journey, but it is near the end.  Next week, I will travel to Santiago, Chile to pick her up.  Best luck to all of you!  The wait is long, but the reward is well worth it!

Thank you all!!

Congratulations to you and your mom. Hope you both have a safe and easy trip back to the US. :)

Called the US embassy in New Delhi and my husbands interview has been scheduled for July 14th. Now its time to patiently wait like a nerve wreck hoping everything goes well.

Congratulations. Don't worry, everything will be fine. I too was freaking out right before the interview, but it ended up going much easier and quicker than I expected. Have faith that all will go well. Just be organized with your documents for his interview and the rest will be simple. Wish you and your husband all the best and good luck :)

Hi all   We are very happy.   Our Visa was granted this morning.   I will write a more detailed description of the interview later.   The entire process took less than 1 1/2 hours.  They asked about 4 questions and did not even ask to look at any photos.   The boards have been great to follow everyone and I wish you all best of luck with your interviews.

Still no interview date. SIGH! I guess I should start crossing my fingers for August. Hopefully this tedious process will be over soon. It is encouraging to see lots of dark green on the spreadsheet though.

You will be scheduled soon. The NVC should be picking up interviewing next week, at most the first week of July. Congratulations on getting CC and wishing you to be scheduled so soon. :)

It does not state the error. But right underneath that section it says bring 2016 w2s.

Bring the AOS and W2's - IRS tax transcripts that you sent to NVC just in case, and send an updated AOS with 2016 W2-IRS Tax transcripts with you to the interview. It is required now to have the updated 2016 AOS and tax transcripts to interviews.
