Green card and SSN once in the USA

My wife arrived April 23rd with a IR-1/CR-1, so she has a temporary green card in her passport.

She has yet to receive the official green card in the mail - Is that unusual? It has been now 5 weeks. At what point do we contact someone, and who do we contact?

We also went yesterday to the SSN office since her SS card never came in the mail either. The guy at the desk said that the NVC "system" didn't have her information in it. He said it wasn't that unusual, but said it could take another 6 weeks for it to enter into the system. Has that happened to anyone?

Two years ago, my wife and I had some delays with the processing of her SSN. It did not come in the mail immediately, as we hoped, when we ticked the box on the application requesting that she receive the SSN after POE. After 4 weeks we went to the SSA office. It took another 2-3 weeks to clear some background check and then the information was entered into their system, I believe the acronym for the system is SAVE.

So about 7 weeks after POE, we received her SSN from the SSA office. The SSN card arrived the next day in the mail, and i believe the green card arrived that same day, as well.

The 12 week estimate they gave is probably pretty conservative. You'll probably get SSN and green card before 12 weeks.

Did you apply for the ss card when you went to the office? Although we checked the box for them to send it automatically, he still went and applied once he got here, per others on the forum. Husband arrived on a Wed. Mom took him the following Wednesday and card arrived on Sat. He arrived on Nov 9 and received ss card on Nov 19. The green card came on Dec 14. Hopefully yours will arrive soon. I would go back and apply for the ss card if you didn't already.

Ya we went there to apply. The man at the desk said her information isn't uploaded into the immigration system and that could take another 4 weeks. Just wondering if anyone has experienced that. We are already 5 weeks in so that would be 9 weeks from arrival for the SSN alone, let alone green card.

Yes that doesn't seem right and I think sometimes they can give you wrong info at SS. Some ppl say that's what happened to them and they went back to apply again. I would try that. Think husband took his passport with the temp stamp in it.

We used her passport. He gave us a sheet saying we have applied, but they need to verify her info and they can't yet. The sheet says up to 4 weeks.

Just worried this is going to be like the NVC. 4 weeks becomes 8 weeks.

Geez 4 weeks? I understand your frustration. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
