I applied for i751 back in June 2017. Like many of us here, after NOA1, i didn't receive any news or biometric appointment. I decided to take infopass appointment to inquire about my case and also to get the i551 stamp (even though my NOA1 letter doesn't expire till Sept 2018). The officer at USCIS was very helpful and courteous. He scheduled me for the biometric and told me i will receive the appt letter via regular mail. He also stamped by passport with i551. I feel so relieved that some action has been taken for my case. I recommend everyone to get the infopass appointment if you are very curious and anxious (like me) regarding your case.

Similar timing like me! Have you got the message/case status update that many of us got “Case was received at my local office”???

The gave you a passport stamp even though your extension letter still had 6 months of validity in it? wow. How did you justify your request, did you bring plane tickets to the interview or something. For how long did he give you your stamp 6 months a year? Thanks

like everyone else I have the same status notifications via case status check etc, so am at a loss as to what is happening. I also decide to schedule an Infopass appointment to maybe get some clarity.  My extension expires in August so I was a bit apprehensive about scheduling one.  But I hear some cannot get an appointment as their local office is so busy.  I was able to get one - it is next week.  I will update after my appoint with any info (or not) I get.   How long is your i551 stamp for?

I told him that i am waiting for my biometric since last 8 months and there hasn't been any progress and I want to get i551 stamp (i didn't give any reason for the stamp and he didn't ask for any reason). He gave for a year from infopass appointment date i.e. March 13th, 2019.

What should I do? Any suggestions?

The extension letter is 1 year from when the 2 year green card expired or the date when I received the letter?

Filed in June 2017 too. No biometric scheduled (I'm assuming its up to date). When we called in October, we were told it is taking more than a year to process. Given the circumstances, do people suggest scheduling an appointment with the local field office to deal with the extension? We got the extension letter, of course, after mailing out the 751i, but that's likely going to expire before they get to the application.

I also read somewhere on this forum that as they are processing the application, the extension continues automatically and it is unnecessary to actually get a stamp on one's passport. True? Is the stamp just a precaution or used for employers to verify eligibility to work?

If you are not planing to travel internationally, or do not need to re-new your Driver License, or any other "or" situations where I-551 stamp would be needed as a proof of your residency here, then no, you don'r really need to get a stamp..
