Our courtesy notice is dated 8/18/2018 and we received it yesterday - 8/25.   I would not worry too much about the DMV.  I would make a copy of it and highlight in yellow the sentence that states that they are "now extending your resident status for 18 months."  And very important, take a copy of the original 12 month extension letter as well.  I doubt that they would give you a problem and do not point out that this is just a courtesy copy.   Good luck!

Thank you for advice! I’ll try my luck at the DMV with the “courtesy copy” and see what happens.

My actual DL doesn’t expire until 9/14, so the Green Card might show up in the mail between now and then.

We also received an 18 month courtesy notice (Form I-797C) that does not look like the original letter sent out for the 12 month extension.  We do not understand why because (like Javi76 above) we did not use anyone to represent us.  My guess is that this notification was sent out in error and that we will receive the official letter soon.  Am I optimistic of what??  hahaha!  WAC 1727xxxxx.

BTW, We are June 2017 filers but have been very quiet lately.  Congratulations to all who have already received their green card.

Hi!   January 2018 filler  here.   like you we received  18-month courtesy notice and we don’t have an attorney either.

I wonder if we should call uscis.

Please share your experience if you call USCIS.

I never submitted a G-28 either. I’m not really worried that the original letter got lost somewhere, because as @Javi76 posted- they received 3 documents at once, that just makes me believe that USCIS has a very messed up structure, unfortunately.

So, you think we might ending up receiving the official letter at any time soon? I hope so. 🙏

Either the official letter or the 10 year GC. I’m at 14 months now, VSC, so hopefully any day now.

I also received my 18 months extension letter, yesterday,  which is completely useless now since my green card got kept by USCIS in exchange for I-551 stamp. So yes, another " souvenir" :)

Anyway, I'm ready to take off in a few minutes - flying to Ukraine. Will share my experience, traveling with the stamp, when Ii make it back. Hopefully by that time, we all have our approval's !! Just dreaming :)

Good luck to you! I was going to share our international travel story sooner so people had an idea what it would be like. But here it is now:

When we checked in for our flight we couldn't do my husband's check in online. When we got to the airport, the person at the desk thought the stamp in the passport was a visa. Which is a totally valid assumption. He said that it didn't work and asked if we have another visa or document. I told him that the stamp was actually my husband's permanent resident card not a visa. So when he processed it as a green card, everything worked out fine. So slight confusion over what the heck the stamp actually is, but the guy was 100% understanding and so good natured about the whole thing.

When we landed in the US, we went in the line to use the self-service kiosks. Because it was either foreign passports or electronic kiosks. I wasn't sure what to scan for my husband's ID. We tried the actual stamp in his Korean passport and the picture side of his green card (I didn't know at the time that you actually scan the reverse). After 3 times it kicked us out and said go to the immigration desk. There were 2 either Delta or airport employees checking the slips the kiosks printed before we actually arrived in line for immigration. When they saw my husband didn't have one, they took him back to the kiosk and scanned his green card (this time on the reverse). I don't know what the kiosk said, but the employee turned to my husband and in a rather condescending tone and almost shouting said "Why are you traveling on an expired green card?".  I turned back around and told the employee that he has a stamp in his passport for it and the employee turned to me and said "It doesn't matter now." Just totally confused by the whole thing, I just let it go because I knew my husband was legally entering and immigration would process him accordingly. So the employee shoved a customs card into my husband's hands to fill out and put him in a separate line for non-citizens/residents. The funny thing: when my husband got to the immi officer, the officer promptly ripped up the customs card and said "You don't have to fill this out anymore.", looked at the stamp in the passport, and said "Welcome home." LOL So that was interesting.

I guess I'm not sure what the best way to go through immigration is in our situation now. Expired green card and stamp in the passport. I don't know if scanning his foreign passport at the kiosk would have brought up his legal status and printed off a ticket. But in any matter, the immigration officer knew what the stamp was and we got through without a problem there.

Anywho...have fun on your travels Ksenia! Hopefully your dream will come true and all of June will be approved! :D

One thing for y'all to note:

The green card no longer looks like the one she got two years ago. The holograms are different and the rear scan strip is gone now. I assume Mr. Cissna is stamping his mark on the agency.

Also, the I-797 letter stationary no longer looks like the original 12 month letter we received. The letter stock has a greenish hue to it and it looks like its printed on currency paper.

Anyway, just remembered some other details for y'all.

I didn’t receive a courtesy notice.

Just a proper extension letter.

you might want to remove the bar code of this letter since your information is tied up on that bar code and can easily scan anywhere.
