hi, vjers'

for those of you with experience waiting for visa issuance after interview, OR have received the visa, may i know if we can wait for the visa after interview and approval, somewhere other than the residence/ address of the beneficiary.

bene lives very far away from the embassy/ consulate where interview will be, like she has to fly and then take the bus for hours, to her  home address. then when it is issued and received by her in her home address, she will, again, take the bus for hours, then fly to the city of interview., where, together, we will then fly to NYC, USA.

Is there another way we can get the visa, once issued, without her going home to her far away place, but just in the city where we will start for the USA?

i really need your guidance here as it is very expensive to go back and forth to her home, just to wait for the visa.

thank you very much for your kind help and guidance.

Have you looked at the possible delivery and pickup locations for visas at your embassy?

Example:  In Taipei, we had the option for either delivery to home address or delivery to specific pickup locations.

The visa and immigration packet are usually sent to the applicants address, wherever that is. I believe you can also have it delivered to the nearest CASV or pick it up at Rio consulate. As you said the applicant lives far away, I think having it delivered to their home is the best hassle free option

p- ana, my bene lives in a mountain farm in the middle of brazil. to get there i have to fly from RDJ to another state, then take a bus for some 8.5 hrs more to another.

and then when we finally receive the visa, w/c is supposed to be produced in 7 days, we go back to rio de J, to fly back to NYC. my flight is round trip NYC to Rio and back. i will do all that traveling just to wait for the visa there!.

been there for 3 mos., last year and i got sick . Brazil for all its size, has buses as the main means of transpo. for a new yorker that's a lot of hassle. Sorry if i'm used to NYC ubiquitous public transportation.

i was thinking of waiting for it in our hotel..maybe book  for some 12 to 14 days, from medical to interview and visa issuance by picking it up from the courier itself.

Has anyone done this? Pls share your experience /know how.

Thank you, everyone.

It is my pleasure Misty. I'm just glad I can give feedback based on my experience. I know how stressful it is to be waiting for your visa to come lol. I'll give you some details that helped me in the waiting process.

My interview was on April 24th,2017. On the 27th it only said my case had been updated. It wasn't until the 28 that my visa was "Issued" on the site. But I think it was delayed because I didn't have my federal police certificate and had to go back to the consulate after my interview to give it to them. A girl I met received hers in the mail on May 2nd.

You'll be able to track your visa in the mail through the courier's website.

On the May 3rd it showed the courier had it

May 4, showed it was on the way,and I got on it on the 5th at 5:30pm. It came in a large box. I was expecting a large envelope.

FYI: The correio you go to to pay for the service hires another company to actually deliver your package to you. So if you have a question the correio store will give you an 800 number to call.

If you'd like to see what the tracking is like, here's the link to my package. Hopefully you'll be able to open.

This is not related to your question and I have no idea what your situation is but this could save you time. A friend of mine just hadher interview and was asked for "Requerimento de certidao de movimentos migratorios" by the consulate. She got it at the aeroporto internacional do Rio, policia federal and delivered to them the next day.

I don't ever remember reading about it and no idea if the Consulate would ask you for this. But if you have traveled outside Brazil like she has maybe they could??? I don't know...............

And bring old passports if you still have them. I wasn't asked for mine but she was

thank you, nasamara. very kind and helpful of you. with your help i can now feel confident of staying in the hotel for 2 weeks to make sure i get the visa before our flight. all i care about is date to come and go from nyc to rio and back as i am the usc and the payor for everything.

i could not understand the statements in the courier's website as it is in portuguese. my bene will, as she is the brazilian.

i was hoping tho it be less than 10 days since interview, as hotel stay can be boring after one tours the city, see some sights, etc. perhaps as we get to know more we can reduce hotel stay. have no interview date yet . we are still going on our 10th week of the 11 weeks promised for review.

thanks, again nasa, bless you and may you be happy and enjoy the USA together ...

You're very welcome. You should consider staying at an airbnb since you're staying for 2 wks. That's what I did. I paid about $60/night in copacabana. It was a 1bdr apt and it was like staying at a hotel with cleaning people daily and 24hr doorman.

i was there for 23 days

wow, that was expensive!  i saw when i tried to book, $315 for 8 nights at Hotel Ok near the Consulate or average of $40/day. Trying to spend less as i am spending for all my bene's expenses from application to her travels inside and out of the country. then as soon as she arrives in the US, we fly to another for business and vacation after all the long wait:(

wow , you are rich,  nasamara! was the long stay because you also did your medical there in rio?

thank you for the very useful info. you are like our guardian angel/adviser:)

I'm def not rich 😂. $1320 seemed pretty reasonable compared to my brother paid. So I just went with it. And honestly I didn't even look at hotels cause I wanted a kitchen to be able to cook. It was a block from the beach. I wanted to stay close to the water so I wouldn't have to spend money on transportation and have things to do.

I stayed that long because my medical was in rio as well.

i can tell you that near the consulate and Ipanema Will be more expensive . Copacabana is a cheaper area . So you can probably find even cheaper there. Especially now that's winter time.

When looking for places you might come across "post 5" or whatever.  It's away to let you know where the place is along the beach. . Copacabana is at post 1-5, Ipanema beach is at from post 6 and on.

Just so you're not clueless like I was when trying to figure out locations.
