Update: I just got my passport from the US Embassy in Phnom Penh (K1 Visa and all, yay!), and I booked my and my fiance's tickets to Korea and then to the US, then I went to the Korean Embassy here in Phnom Penh to inquire. I showed them the tickets and my passport with the visa to the US and they confirmed it: I can stay in Korea without a visa for 30 days since my outgoing ticket from Korea is directly to the US. They even printed out details on where you can see this information so I can show it to the Korean immigration, as well as a phone number to call when we arrive there, if we have any problems.

Yay~~~

Great news for you. Is there anyway that you can scan the "printed details" and post here as we will surely run into this question again and would like to provide that couple with the "official" word. You'd be amazed the number of situations that pop up again and again. Also, return after your trip and let us know how things went.  Safe travels.

This is basically what the consulate printed for me to show to the immigration officer if I have problems entering the Korea. I would have linked the actual web address but it doesn't seem to be working but you can find the details on their official immigration website: www.hikorea.go.kr and look for their Immigration guide.

Updates!

I have reached the US of A without a hitch and I managed to spend 2 weeks in Korea without the need of a visa. Having said that, this is is still not that common, so I would suggest getting to the airport reaaaaally early. Cebu Pacific had to send an email to the Korean Embassy to confirm if I was actually allowed to travel to Korea without a visa and stay there for 2 weeks as long as I had 1) an American visa/green card, and 2) exiting ticket that was a direct flight to the USA.

It all worked out in the end and all I had to show immigration was my ticket to the USA.

Happy travels~~

Thanks for letting us know that and for actually coming back to tell us.

How do you like it in the USA so far?

San Diego is pretty cool. Haven't had the chance to really explore much because the wedding happened about more or less a week ago. But one thing I noticed is that everything is just so big here. Mostly when it comes to food servings. I have yet to finish a meal... it's just a lot almost all the time.
