I tried asking on the Greek Subforums but it seems rather dry there. Plenty of questions unanswered; though I'd love to help them as well, but I don't know anything myself. Lol

It's quite irritating enough as it is; that is, the entire K1 visa process from my end, now I hear that things are 'Consulate/Embassy specific", meaning you can do somethings in some Embassies/Consulates that you can't in others. Why make things more complicated than what it already is?

Generally my questions are:

Will the Greek Embassy send packet 3 (aka the checklist) via email or normal snail mail?

Is it required that my Fiance and I fill out form DS-160 first; before they could send Packet 3?

Could these questions potentially be answered by calling the Embassy themselves? If so, I might need to purchase a global calling card for international calling.

If anyone could answer these things for me, that would be greatly appreciated. I just despise how convoluted this process can be. I thought I was doing a pretty good job considering I got an NOA2 without any RFE(s) despite my worries. haha.

Still got a long way to go.

Embassies are increasing relying on email and online versus sending snail mail due to delivery issues and unreliable foreign addresses.

Everything that you're going to be sent by mail is available online.

Once you get the case # from the NVC or the NVC approval letter, you can kick start your case by filling out the DS-160 sooner rather than later.

Start gathering all documents as soon as you download the K-1 visa packet from the US Embassy website. Good luck, keep us up to date on your progress.

So you can download that packet? I'm just so confused now. Lol

If it's 2 weeks and the embassy didn't contact your fiance for his email ID, then expect the packet 3 to arrive by snail mail. Mine took 3 weeks and few days to arrive by snail mail, while a friend of mine received his pkt 3 via email 1 week and 4 days after the US embassy in athens received the approved petition. He was first contacted on the phone for his email ID, the second week.

You can fill out the ds160 if you have your case number but i will advise you wait and receive the packet 3 first.

When you receive the packet 3, do not follow the dhl instruction and book your interview. Gather all documents and prove of relationship, send it back to the IV section of the embassy (the address will be in your packet 3) at your own expense. The cost is about €11 for package not more than 1kg.  The embassy will review your documents ahead of time. This is very important and good for you and your fiance because if there is something missing they will ask for it before sending packet 4 and on the day of interview you may know if approved or not because most times they decide before the interview.

Book your interview after you must have received packet 4 from the embassy informing you that you are documentaryly qualified. You will receive packet 4 by email.

Packet 4 contains information about the hospital to contact for medical/fees, how to book your interview and the visa fee.

Good luck.

Okay, I was just making sure I wasn't missing something here. This information has been really helpful to me. As far as I knew, the NVC sent our petition to the U.S. Embassy on the 18th of may and the Embassy got it Monday the 22nd. So far it's been there for 6 days. (I won't count Memorial Day yesterday.)

> Waiting until you get packet 3 before doing ds-160. Roger that.
> Do not follow the DHL instruction; but just gather the documents and proof of relationship, then send it back to the IV section of the Embassy.
> Packet 4 is just information about medical locations close by? Huh, well that makes things easy I suppose.

Thanks again for clearing that up. Hey, is it possible for me (The Petitioner) to pay for my Fiance(e)'s Visa Fee while here in the U.S.?

Yes you can pay with your credit card. The visa fee from november 2016 is $265.

On packet 4, the instruction is that you should contact the appointment call center, tell them the embassy said you are documentrayly qualified and would like to schedule an immigrant visa appointment and pay the k1 visa fee. When you call the number, the will confirm that your ds160 is ready for interview then help you complete the online form. You can still do it yourself but the options are confusing. So I will advise you call them. On the option of payment, you can choose  cash or credit card. If you choose credit card, you will have to log back in and pay; If you choose cash, they will send an invoice. Your fiance will have to print it out and pay at any piraus bank close to her. Few minutes after the payment you will recieve an email to log back online usvisa-info.com or click a link, to choose a date. Before you are able to log back in retrieve your password by going to forget password and have your password reset because they will create an account for you with your email.

Make sure you choose on a Tuesday or Thursday only, which is for k1.
