Dear all, my wife ,my Mother in law sent my AOS application based on K1 visa since April 29,2017.We received a Form I-797 C, Notice of Action yesterday with the package back .They say the payment amount is incorrect, or has not been provided. Please review the form instructions for the fee information....

When they sent the application, the sent a money order from Western union Kroger. One is : 140$ ,another one is : 85$ and one is 1000$.Totally they sent 1225$.Please let me know the mistake, because we have the receipt. What's wrong? And the USCIS send a green sheet says: Place this letter on the top of my application package. I am waiting your feedback.

Thank you very much!

Not sure why you sent 3 amounts but the total is $1225 that is correct.

We sent one check with total for $1225 and just wrote a note on the bottom saying: For I-485 and Biometrics, (the EAD and AP are free when filing with i-485 so don't have to pay anything for them)

They may not have liked the three separate money orders.

Some money order checks cannot go higher than $1000. Hence why the multiple money orders.

Good to know, never really dealt with it, still thinking perhaps it's the 3 money orders that they perhaps didn't like at USCIS.

Yea that's what I think too, though. OP, any reason no regular check can be written and send?

I don't think USCIS will accept cash.  Can you do two money orders, one for $1,000 and one for $225?  Were the money orders made out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security?

If you don't have any personal checks, go to your bank and ask them to fix a certified bank check for you. In the amount of $1225.

You have options:

  • Certified bank check as mentioned
  • Get a friend/relative to write a check and hand them the cash (the cheapest solution)
  • Open your own bank account (takes about 30 minutes and some, like TD Bank, will issue temporary checks the same day)
