my visa has to be in my possession for six months before using it to go to algeria. UMMM is this right? Please help, I want

That sounds like it would be a strange rule, but who knows these days. What I believe it means is that your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 additional months and not close to expiration when you enter Algeria. They want to make sure your passport won't expire while you are there. If you recently got your passport, it should be valid for 10 years I think so you should not have a problem entering.

If you are going through the visa process and will be interviewing in Casablanca, Morocco, join us over at the

What visa are you referring to?

What passport are you using?  If a US passport, then the VIsa question is not related to a US visa, since you already have citizenship, right?

There is no such US visa restriction.

I recently  (in March 2017) went to Algeria to see my fiance. I applied for my visa to Algeria at the end of February and received my visa one week later  (visa valid for 2 years with a 90 day stay). To apply for the visa you have to have an invitation  (or hotel reservation), complete the application, passport photos and the visa fee paid by US Postal office cashier check,  and your passport. I sent the package to the Algerian embassy in New York....it took a total of 4 days to get back.

To add a little to my post....my Algerian visa was issued 2/23 and I traveled to Algeria on March 22.

And I agree with RJandHamid....I think you might be talking about the 6 month validity for traveling with the passport  (it is always recommended your passport have 6 months left before it expires when you travel.....your passport shouldn't expire until 2026/2027)

I know when I got my first passport, I used it almost immediately and many others I know have done the same thing.  Whoever told you this six month rule may have been confused.

I don't think you need to have a passport for x amount of time. I flew about two weeks after getting mine. You did see Janet's advice about the visa to Algeria right?
