Hi, I'm looking to continue working at my current position in NY under which my R-1 was filed, but now would like to look at the possibility to file for permanent residence. My R-1 expires Feb. 20th, 2018 and I think I still have the option for an extension but would rather get my green card if I have enough time. I am married to an American, I was married before approved on my R-1 Visa and so just wondering he route that I should take in filing for my green card. Should I do an extension first? What are the steps and procedures, what are the options that I have to getting a green card? and the costs associated with each route? Any help is much appreciated as I haven't seen to much on immigrating using an R-1 Visa! Thank you!!!

On what basis on what are you trying to file for a green card ? Because your path highly depends on that.

Wondering why you did not go the GC route in the first place?

I was hired under the R-1 for a temporary resident status. That 2 year residency turned into the full time position, thus needing to change over to a green card.

I'm 24 my wife is 23. We were married in the states but worked in Canada before coming here for that resident position in which I obtained an R-1.

I don't know which basis to file for the green card as I think there are a couple of different paths I could. I'm looking for the simplest route with the least amount of hassles hoops to jump through.

are you currently in the us?

if so just have your wife file i130 and i485 for you. I would add the i131 and i765 so you can travel abroad and work while it is pending and they are free with the i485.

you are filing on the basis of a spouse of a us citizen.

good luck
