AOS Interview/ Translation of Foreign Documengs

Good evening,

 

 We have our interview next week and  as we were preparing the paperwork I noticed that they're asking for the certified English translation of each foreign language document.  When I first submitted the form 485  I included translation of the birth certificate as well as a divorce paper.

 

Do I need to pay and have them translated again? :( silly me did not make copies

Without sounding rude or blunt - yes. 

 

If they're asking for translated copies then that is what they want. It's very black and white.

Yes, it is a bit of a live and learn moment regarding not making copies.  However, there is another possibility, if either you or your spouse are fluent in both English and the language on the documents, I believe you can self translate them, but you need to attest to the fact that you did this, and attest that you are fluent in both languages.

 I can confirm this because I did this for my husband for our AOS. As bill & katya stated as long as either you or your spouse is fluent in both languages you are able to translate them along with a signed paper "certifying" that you are fluent and that the translation is accurate. You can find examples of that translation certification document with a simple google search.
