Most likely to weed out those with work authorization.

Just because something is in a contract, it doesn't mean that it's material.

I think it could be argued that it IS material.....but legal questions are outside my field of expertise.

Why are you being mean? If you are not going to answer any question then don't comment.

I am not trying to be disrespectful. I am simply trying to push the argument to the limit to show my point and add a bit of humor at the same time.

I am sorry if your offended by I see no point to sugar coating what i have to say if it dulls the point of the argument.

Hello VJ'ers,

My husband and I got selected to participate on a game show this summer. Filming starts next month and we will be playing to win a big prize.

I let the producers know that I am currently waiting for my green card but I have a social security number. As for my work permit, it hasn't arrived yet but I was told it would be here in 30 days.

Attached is the requirement that was in the contract.  I'm unsure if I meet the requirements, what are your thoughts? Will I run into a problem if I participate and win a prize?

Technically I am living here legally and have submitted all my documents to obtain permanent residence...

I had a thought about this not sure its even relevant, but how do 90 day fiance compensate the people on their show when they don't have a GC?  Do they acquire another visa to go on the show or are they on the show without payment?  Just  a thought, but they have to adjust status too and are on television before that event!

Removal of Conditions..  TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK

Time to reset the tick tock clock again.   Roll my eyes.

GC  Conditional date:  05/26/2015

N400.  Application:      02/28/2018

Biometrics:                    02/22/2018

Waiting............    Roll my eyes again :(

USA citizen as of 25th of July 2018. :)

I thought about that too. Even if only the USC is compensated it still took two of them to come on the show and technically "work" in front of a camera...

I had another fleeting thought, probably not relevant either, but you can play the lottery here and not be a resident to collect the winnings. Hopefully the OP will get their EAD card shortly in time to participate as long as the organisers are aware and she does not work, if it is classed as work. as the 90 day fiance show mustn't be.  Again just another thought.

I've decided to speak with the producers and let them know my concerns in detail. If I obtain my EAD before filming begins then I will continue with the show.. if not it's all good. No need to risk my GC for a game...

Personally I don't think you qualify to even be entered into this contest. You need to be a legal resident to enter not only if you win.

Many contest have the clause that you must be a legal US resident or USC. This is not the same as a job contests have a different set of rules and yes they can restrict it to USC and legal residents.

Not sure what show you are talking about but is there any chance that filming occurs in places not in the US ?  If you have to hop to Canada for instance then an USC or LPR could return and you would be ... umm.. eliminated

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

How come people on 90 day fiance can work? Oh bc they pay the us citizen so it's ok. I tho k it would be the same on her case, they can pay her husband

If you had an EAD, you would fill out the part about an Alien authorized to work, not permanent resident.

I wanted to add that not only are you (according to your posts) only going to start filming next month but if you do win, you won't get your prize until your episode airs. That's usually, minimum 3 months post filming.

Good luck!

I feel like people are not completely reading the text...

It says "...or have met all requirements under U.S. immigration, tax or other laws to travel to the United States..."

From what I understand, that means you are eligible as long as you are legally present in the country. Since you have the right to work, there really shouldn't be an issue, but that's up to the producers, so I think speaking with them candidly is the best way to go.

Good luck, I hope you get to participate! :)

I think speaking to the producers is obviously the best thing to do.

There's no reason speculating about it if you can get a straight answer from the people in charge.

I have never watched the show myself, are they actually married during the show?  Also, is it possible they take the rare route of attempting to expedite a K1 based EAD once the foreigner arrives?  Just curious.
