If you are adjusting status based on marriage to a US citizen, then you need to provide your marriage certificate and proof that your spouse is a US citizen - birth certificate or US passport.  This proof establishes your eligibility to adjust status for a green card.

You coming on a tourist visa, your passport, and your I-94 establish that you legally entered the US is only one part of the proof to be eligible to adjust.
