Complicated Address Due to Advanced Studies

Hi all!

Can't believe it's almost time to file to ROC! I don't know what we would've done without VJ during our K-1 experience and the subsequent AOS process. You all were a true godsend, and I still recommend couples to this site.

Now that we're preparing our ROC packet, I have a rather complicated question.

I'm have been in Seminary in Chicago since my beloved joined me in the U.S.; and as such, our residence situation has changed depending on where the church sent me. A summarized timeline would be:

10/14/2014: Beloved and I arrive in the States

11/1/2014: Marriage in Chicago, IL

We live in Chicago from 10/14/2014 until  06/30/2016.

07/01/2016-08/01/2016: Live with mother in Minnesota for one month prior to beginning of Internship

08/02/2016-present: Reside in Rochester,MN as part of year-long Internship/Residency as required by Seminary degree.

08/23/2017-12/07/2017: Live in Chicago for remainder of Seminary experience.

Throughout all of this, we have put my mother's address down as our permanent address/mailing address, to ensure no mail gets lost.  When we initially filed our AOS, we put our Chicago address as our current address and added a note, signed by both of us, detailing the nature of our address situation.

When I graduate in December, we will most likely live with my mother until the church assigns us to a permanent position (sometime in May 2018).

My Main Question: Should I write a detailed note explaining all of this and put down our Chicago address (which we will vacate in December), or just put my mother's address down for everything, since that will be the place we will consistently receive mail and will be living there next year?

I know this is complicated; but any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much!!

Blessings on all of your journeys

Megan (and Tee)

Keep filling in AR-11s (use the online option) for your spouse's address changes and the I-865 (mail in only) for yours - there's always an option to have a different physical address from the mailing address.

Keep your mother's address as your mailing address, but keep your physical address current.

Theoretically, this should mean that, if you get called in for an interview, they should call you to the "local office" closest to your current physical address. I don't know if it will work (USCIS is not exactly predictable this way) but it's your best chance. It's also good to be seen to be following the rules.

Oh shoot! I hadn't reported our Rochester address, because we're about to move back to the Chicago address we originally gave them. Would you say it is worth reporting it now, even though we're moving in August?  Oh dear; I can't believe I missed this form. I hope this isn't serious.

Or perhaps because our Rochester address is only our temporary address, we only need to submit the AR-11 when we officially leave our Chicago address (the Seminary forwards all our mail to our Rochester address, because we're only here for a year)?

I found this on the AR-11 page: "You do not need to include temporary addresses as long as you maintain your present address as your permanent residence and continue to receive mail there."

The only issue is that the seminary will have to put the envelope in another envelope and mail that, since USCIS mail is marked "do not forward". If they're ok doing that then go ahead and leave it the way it is, would be my advice. But you may have to do your biometrics in Chicago instead of Rochester (if they think that's where you live.)
